The indie Vampire Survivors-like Megabonk has exploded onto the Steam player charts after more than a million copies sold since its surprisingly loud launch. Initially, players only have access to two characters and one map, but if you continue to play the game, you will unlock new maps in Megabonk and progress through difficulty Tiers that lead to new areas.

How to Unlock All Maps in Megabonk

And How to Unlock Tier 2 & Tier 3 in Megabonk

There are a total of two maps in Megabonk: Forest and Desert.

  • The Forest map is the default map that is unlocked at the very start of the game, and features numerous hills and valleys in a green landscape filled with Goblins.
  • The Desert map is much flatter and is home to Scorpion and Cactus-like enemies. Though you can see Points of Interest from further away, it is much more difficult.

To unlock the Desert map, you must beat the stage boss of Tier 1 of the Forest Map with any character. There are a total of three Tiers for each map, increasing in difficulty as you continue up the ranks. At Tier 2, you can progress through a portal after the Tier 1 stage boss to enter the second map. At Tier 3, you can progress to the third map and face the final boss in its own separate zone.

You must beat each previous Tier to unlock new Tiers in Megabonk. At first, you can only play Tier 1, and cannot progress to the second stage of the map. After beating the Tier 1 boss, play the level again at Tier 2 to progress through the portal. Defeat the boss here, then play a Tier 3 run to make it to the third stage.

Best Tips to Beat Tier 3 in Megabonk

How to Beat Tier 3 & Final Bosses in Megabonk

Tier 3 is the ultimate challenge in Megabonk. It's incredibly difficult to survive empowered enemies in the third region of a run, let alone to get to and beat the final boss. To beat Tier 3, Megabonk players must min-max their build in the first two stages so that they can scale significantly going into the final fight. But don't avoid taking defensive abilities in favor of higher damage output – you need some form of defense to survive the final boss of each map.

Get XP & Luck Tomes Early to Scale Quickly

The most important thing to do if you want to make it to Tier 3 and beat the final boss in Megabonk is to get both the XP and Luck Tomes as early as possible. The earlier you get XP bonuses, the faster you will level. The earlier you get Luck bonuses, the better your leveling rewards will be.

As long as you are able to efficiently kill enemies, focus on upgrading these two Tomes over other leveling rewards. Reroll your rewards until you get either of these Tomes, or restart your Run entirely, to have a much better chance of reaching the final stage.

Have Some Way to Regen HP (or Just Take Aegis)

Megabonk All Maps Unlock Tiers Tips Aegis

You need to have powerful weapons and combat bonuses to beat Tier 3 in Megabonk, but to beat the final boss of either map, you also need to have powerful defenses. Both bosses completely nerf your character at the start of the fight and feature puzzle-like elements that you must complete without the majority of your kit.

During this initial phase in both final boss fights, you must have a way to regenerate HP, mitigate incoming damage, or otherwise help your survivability. It is inevitable that you will get hit while facing the final bosses, and without defensive buffs, it's extremely likely that you will die in one hit.

Two of the best solutions here are high HP Regen and the Aegis weapon.

  • Because the bosses gain a shield, Lifesteal won't help you much in these fights, so opt for HP Regen when given the choice if you want to fight the final boss.
  • The Aegis prevents most damage when you get hit and recharges over time, and is extremely handy for survivability, especially if you increase its Projectile count.

Increase Difficulty & Boost Boss Spawns For More XP & Chests

It might sound counterintuitive, but as long as you can still kill enemies quickly, increasing Difficulty in Megabonk is one of the best ways to boost your progression scaling over a run. With a higher Difficulty stat, enemies will have more HP and deal more damage, and the game will spawn more enemies in general.

Because Difficulty increases the number of enemies that can spawn, you will be able to harvest more XP over the course of your entire run. It's like an XP boost with a caveat, so just be sure not to raise the Difficulty too high. Before you leave the Tier 1 stage, try to raise your Difficulty stat to around 40% for a manageable boost to enemy count.

Lean Into Your Character's Starting Weapon & Passive Ability

Every Megabonk character starts with a specific weapon and a unique passive bonus. Though you can pick up any weapon or tome as any character, some bonuses and weapons work better for certain characters over others.

Calcium, for example, starts with the Bone projectile weapon and the ability to scale damage based on movement speed (which increases over time). Because of his fast speed, the Aura and Frostwalker weapons are virtually useless, while Projectile weapons like Electric Daggers, Bananas, and the like benefit naturally from bonuses you will choose to boost the Bone's damage.

Take note of your chosen character's unique ability and weapon, and try to lean into weapons and bonuses that synergize with them.

Toggle Unwanted Items Off & Banish Bad Items Early

One of the best ways to increase your chances of completing a Tier 3 run in Megabonk is to customize which items you can find in a run. In the Shop, tab over to the Items, Tomes, and Weapons categories, and look for a little checkmark next to items you have unlocked. If you unlock the ability to Toggle items, you can turn off items that you don't want to spawn in your next run.

This is a game-changing level of RNG manipulation because it makes it much more likely that you will get the rewards you do want from Chests and leveling. Going back to the Calcium example, because he doesn't need Aura or Frostwalker, you can turn off these weapons entirely and boost the chance of getting more useful weapons.

While in a run, don't use the Banish ability on leveling rewards – you can have a successful run with just about any Weapon or Tome, though some are definitely better than others. Instead, use it to Banish items from Chests and Moai statues that you don't want. This completely removes these from the reward pool, increasing the chance that you will get something better from all future item reward sources.
