Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, has announced the release date of its upcoming title, Meet Your Maker. Set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, Meet Your Maker will revolve around players raiding the outposts of others in search of precious resources while guarding their own base through the use of customizable traps and guards.
Despite having co-developed titles such as Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty, Behaviour Interactive gained mainstream attention following the release of original IP Dead by Dayligh t in 2017, which continues to dominate the asymmetrical genre five years later. Meet Your Maker marks Behaviour's newest game since the reveal of Deathgarden, a project which was officially discontinued in late 2019.
As recently revealed, Meet Your Maker is set to release April 4, 2023. Set on a dying Earth, players will each take on the role of a Custodian, servant to the Chimera, a living experiment which is the only thing capable of saving all life left on Earth. Players will be tasked with constructing outposts complete with customizable traps and AI-controlled guards for the express purpose of protecting their own Chimera. Once their own Chimera is sufficiently secured, players can take on the outposts of other players in the pursuit of valuable resources, with this gameplay loop of outpost creation and infiltration being the primary focus of the title. In addition to Meet Your Maker, Behaviour Interactive has another multiplayer title in the works.
Aside from giving players a solid release date for the game, the Meet Your Maker trailer shown at the 2022 Game Awards also showcases three of the title's main mechanics - its build, raid, and upgrade functions. These three mechanics form the core gameplay experience, players being able to work with friends when building or raiding and improve the lethality of their outpost over time through upgrading key aspects of it. Also touched upon in the trailer are the AI-controlled guards, which players can place in their outposts and pre-record custom paths for in order to corner intruders, and a replay system allowing players to view all raid attempts made on their outpost, both victorious and unsuccessful.
Though the Builder vs. Raider dynamic seen in Meet Your Maker will not be an entirely new premise to some, the title's inclusion of interesting features aims to push the boundaries of the genre and make for a new and enjoyable experience. Similarly to the function of builds in Dead by Daylight, Behaviour Interactive's latest game aims to maintain this same level of flexibility and allow players to do things on their terms and at their own pace, seeing how they fare in a competitive setting before changing strategies to account for any weaknesses. For those desperate to try out Meet Your Maker, the beta is currently open for sign-ups.
Meet Your Maker will release on April 4, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
