Summary

  • McDonald's is giving away Pokemon TCG cards with Happy Meals.
  • The cards feature popular Pokemon like Charizard and Pikachu.
  • The McDonald's Pokemon cards will be available untli February 24.

McDonald’s is giving out packs of exclusive Pokemon Trading Card Game cards with every Happy Meal. The Pokemon Trading Card Game continues to be the highest-selling card game in the world, with products still flying off shelves. The collaboration is expected to do extremely well considering the current circumstances of the collectible card game.

The current Pokemon Trading Card Game set, Prismatic Evolutions, has already sold out at many retailers. Scalpers have been cracking open a large number of boxes and selling individual cards for thousands of dollars on eBay, causing The Pokemon Company to address the shortage of the Prismatic Evolution set. Scalpers have been a problem on many collectible products, with Pokemon having a particularly hard time with the issue. It's possible McDonald's could become the next victim of scalpers with its limited-time Happy Meal set of Pokemon cards.

Pokemon Pocket’s first SP Emblem Event for the Mythical Island set is live, and here’s how you can dominate this PvP activity.

Pokemon fans who purchase a McDonald's Happy Meal from now until February 24 will receive a pack of four Pokemon cards. Packs have the chance to include many Dragon-type Pokemon, like Dragapult, Hydreigon, Roaring Moon, Rayquaza, Dragonite, and more. The fan favorite Fire-type Pokemon, Charizard, is also featured in the promotion. The Happy Meal website also features a game for fans to play on their phone, which has players guiding a Poke Ball through a maze to find Pokemon.

Whether scalpers will seize the opportunity to catch a large portion of these Happy Meals is to be seen. The scalping problem has been awful for fans, especially during the time when the Van Goh Pikachu collaboration sold out in 2022. The Pokemon Company sent out extra Van Goh cards to fans who missed out, and it seems the common solution for TPC is to print more product to get to fans. The same is happening with the Prismatic Evolutions set, and if the McDonald’s set becomes scarce, perhaps more will be printed over time.

Distributors have been doing their best to get more products out to individuals. GameStop has limited sales of the Pokemon TCG to two units per customer, with many smaller retailers following suit. The company emphasized the significance of "ensuring more fans can access the latest expansion" when explaining its decision. Pokemon continues to be the biggest and most profitable franchise of all time. Merchandise, movies, TV shows, cards, video games, and more all hit record sales for The Pokemon Company, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
