Scream 7: Mason Gooding's Comments Will Excite Horror Fans

Now that Scream 7 is filming, horror fans are reflecting on the slasher franchise, coming up with new Ghostface theories, and waiting for any possible update. Mason Gooding recently commented on Scream 7 when interviewed by Entertainment Tonight about his upcoming horror movie Heart Eyes, which has a new trailer.

As reported by Deadline, Gooding talked about Neve Campbell's legendary work as final girl Sidney Prescott before sharing his positive thoughts about his co-star Jasmin Savoy Brown, who plays his character Chad Meeks-Martin's sister Mindy.

I Think Scream 7 Is Going To Have A Hard Time Defining Itself

Gooding said of Campbell's time as Sidney:

“That’s mother right there... I feel like that’s the godmother of the genre that we are so lucky to appropriate in Heart Eyes, [which] is the idea of marrying two different tones."

It's interesting to hear Gooding compare Scream 7 and Heart Eyes as Christopher Landon co-wrote the latter. The filmmaker was originally going to direct Scream 7 but now Kevin Williamson is directing the sequel. Landon's horror movies and the Scream franchise share a goofy sense of humor and some campy moments. Gooding continued:

"Obviously, with the over-encompassing one being a more horrific and more high-octane experience that she still to this day has always handled with a level of ease and care and stoicism that’s made each iteration of her character, and I can say all of her work.”

Gooding also said he was "granted a sister" when he and Savoy Brown were cast as siblings in Scream 7. He described a positive working relationship and said, "I feel like being able to step into a character that has been inundated with so much love, on set and in general, has allowed Jasmine and I to fall into a rhetoric that’s super comfortable for us."

Fans have come up with a few theories about Chad and Mindy's roles in Scream 7 as they are the last two remaining members of the Core Four. Gooding is becoming a horror star to watch thanks to his time as Chad and, now, his co-starring role in Heart Eyes. The actor also played Jonas in the horror comedy Y2K and Dan Connor in the 2022 movie Fall, which is a terrifying story about a couple's mountain climb that goes wrong. Gooding has said nothing but good things about the Scream franchise and when he's interviewed, he always seems thrilled to be part of it.

Chad has more of a passive role in Scream (2022) as his sister Mindy is the one with the horror genre knowledge. However, in the next movie, he joins the fight against Ghostface in New York City. Chad's near-death experience in Scream 6 will likely inspire him to be even more prepared in Scream 7. While it's unclear where Chad and Mindy are in their lives in Scream 7, fans can assume that they are now in touch with other legacy characters such as Sidney, and they will all team up to face the iconic villain. Scream 7 will be released on February 27th, 2026 and all will be revealed about what Chad is up to now.
