Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans have been discussing what they'd like to see, such as a similar opening to the 2018 game. Expectations for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are high as fans eagerly await its arrival.
Spider-Man games have been hit or miss, with 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac being a major hit. While some may still prefer the movie tie-in game Spider-Man 2 and some may prefer the nostalgic feeling of the PlayStation game Spider-Man released in 2000, it's safe to say that Marvel’s Spider-Man and its follow-up, Miles Morales, are generally accepted as some of the best Spider-Man media, let alone games. A fan also recently found a little Easter egg in Marvel’s Spider-Man making fun of the web-swinging in some of the previous titles.
Fans of the 2018 release have been discussing on Reddit what they would like to see in the next installment. One fan, Reddit user EamoM2oo4, posted to say that they hope to see a main menu system that flows directly into the gameplay, as seen in the Marvel’s Spider-Man demo. Because the demo for the 2018 game only had to load in a preset selection of playable activities and not account for player progression, it was able to display Spidey high up on a wall of a building during the menu, and then swing into action the second the player pressed start. Fans said that with the supposed power of the PS5, the feature should be closer to being attainable, but the original poster EamoM2oo4 described the concept as “next level.” Given that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is expected in fall 2023, fans won’t need to wait too long to find out.
One fan has already made an awesome Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 main menu mock-up, which takes on a much darker tone, fitting for the arrival of Venom. While the fan-made menu concept doesn’t directly feature a dynamic entrance straight into gameplay, Spidey is positioned in such a way that it would be possible. Fans on EamoM2oo4’s post also mentioned how Miles Morales had something similar for the first time playing the game, but instead of evolving into gameplay, the menu went straight into a smooth cutscene.
The concept of a seamless experience has been an aspiration for many a game studio over the years, with Lost Odyssey making a big impression with its famous cutscene that went straight into gameplay. The 2018 God of War also utilized a near-seamless form of gameplay, but even then, the game did not flow from the main menu directly into gameplay. After three years into the lifespan of the PS5, there’s yet to be a game that really pushes the system’s hardware. It could be speculated that Death Stranding 2 will demonstrate the power of the PS5, as Hideo Kojima has been known to strain the most out of each console he works on. It could similarly be said that Insomniac’s work with Sony consoles has been demanding, so Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could see a seamless experience.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in Fall 2023 for PS5.
