Summary

  • A March update for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC addresses more performance issues and bugs.
  • CPU and GPU performance has been optimized when it comes to ray tracing and visual effects have been improved.

A new update for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has swung its way onto PC following another recent patch that attempted to fix performance and optimization issues. This new update tackles more performance issues and squashes a few bugs, hopefully making Marvel's Spider-Man 2 a smoother experience for PC users.

Insomniac Games' take on everyone's friendly neighborhood web-slinging Spider-Man has proven to be one of the most popular and successful superhero video games in recent memory, with the original 2018 game spawning a sequel and its own spin-off. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 dropped in late 2023 to positive reviews, though it launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, meaning PC players who had invested time in the original game were left out. This was fixed at the end of January 2025, with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 being brought to PC. In the weeks since, the PC version of the game has now seen multiple updates, all of which have targeted performance issues and bugs.

This new update, the fourth patch Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has seen since it dropped for PC, seeks to address more performance issues, bugs, and glitches, as well as make general quality-of-life improvements. CPU and GPU performance has been optimized when it comes to ray tracing, as has the game's performance in areas involving sand. Several ray tracing bugs have also been fixed, including one that caused excessive lighting in certain areas, as well as a big one that caused characters to appear darker than they should look.

Other big fixes include fixing a crash that happened while quitting Spider-Man 2 too quickly after starting it and another that involved a crash that would happen on quadcore processors after turning ray tracing on. It's already a great-looking game, though now that it is on PC, players will likely want to push Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to its limits. This new update works to make this possible, with another fix addressing an annoying issue with brightness, contrast, and other visual effects that caused them to reset.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 suffered a rocky PC launch, with many players feeling the port of the game paled in comparison to its console version. PC optimization has long been a tricky part of porting games, though Insomniac has worked to bring the PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 up to speed, making it a valid way to play for those who may not have a PlayStation 5. The studio confirmed last year that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would not receive any story-driven DLC content, a decision that likely came as a surprise to players, though the base game features plenty of web-slinging action for players to enjoy.
