Without a doubt, the challenge missions are about as tough as it gets in Marvel's Midnight Suns. Because there aren't consequences and players can start them over again and again, they often don't get the credit they deserve for their difficulty. Especially with Venom's challenge mission, players can spend an hour or more trying and failing.
These puzzle games are good teasers and encourage some strategic thinking that can carry over to the game. But the limited deck and obscure rules can make gamers who like Marvel's Midnight Suns hate this part. It's understandable to want a step-by-step guide to get this portion of the game over with.
Beating The Brain Buffet Challenge Mission
- Use the Lethal Embrace card on opponent 1.
- Use the Insatiable Hunger card.
- Use the Spike Burst card on opponents 2, 4, and 5.
- Use both charges of the Tendril Strike card on opponent 3.
- Use the Web Toss card on opponent 2, sending it into the green hazard.
- Use both charges of the Tendril Strike card on opponent 2.
- Use the Tasty Brains card on opponent 3.
- Use the Assimilation card.
- Use the Tasty Brains card on opponent 6.
- Use the Lethal Embrace card on opponent 7.
The enemy numbers for this guide go clockwise around Venom, starting with the opponent on the left as number one. Opponents 6 and 7 will be dealt with last, so focus on taking out opponents 1 through 5 at the start.
Start by using Lethal Embrace on opponent 1. This will kill him and give players a new card, Insatiable Hunger.
Use Insatiable Hunger to recover a charge of Ravenous, keeping Venom's damage high.
Use Spike Burst and target opponents 2, 4, and 5. This damage isn't high enough to kill any of them, but it does enough damage to make them all precariously low.
Now use both charges of a Tendril Strike card against opponent 3. This, like the previous move, will not kill the enemy but it will leave him vulnerable. More importantly, this gets Venom out of the way and sets up some environmental kills.
Now throw opponent 2 into the green hazard with Web Toss. This will kill opponents 4 and 5.
It's important to use both charges of the final card, Tendril Strike, against opponent 2. If used against opponent 3, players will be out of cards and fail the challenge. Killing opponent 2 yields Tasty Brains.
Use the newly acquired Tasty Brains card on opponent 3, finishing off the first group.
It may seem game-ending, but use the Assimilation card now. The scenario doesn't say it, but this will give players a Tasty Brains card so they can finish the challenge.
Use that tasty Brains card against opponent 6. This will give players another damage card because KOs give Venom these draws when under the effect of Assimilation.
Finally, end the fight by using Lethal Embrace on opponent 7, the final enemy.
Now players have a copy of the Assimilation card permanently. Upgrade this card and start using it. It's part of the best deck for Venom because it allows him to take out entire waves of opponents in a single round without any penalty toward card usage.
