Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel superheroes seem to be everywhere these days. Not only are they dominating the big and small screens, but they are also leading a plethora of video game experiences. From massive online live-service adventures like Marvel's Avengers to great family-friendly titles like LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, there is no shortage of fun to be had. And in the next couple of years, the Marvel fun will only be growing with titles led by the big three. But, someone has seemingly been left out of the fun.
Many Marvel fans know the Avengers' "big three" as Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. Each of them helped lead the team across countless stories and were vital to building the MCU's version. While both Iron Man and Captain America will get to make their mark on the video game scene soon, Thor does not seem to have anything in the works right now. The God of Thunder could lead to a fantastic experience for fans, so hopefully he is given that chance to shine soon.
Why a Big Marvel Easter Egg in Battlefield 6 is More Likely Than You’d Think
EA's next Battlefield game seems primed for a reveal soon, and it may be primed for a surprising Marvel-based tie-in Easter egg.
Thor Deserves a Game of His Own, Just as Much as Cap and Iron Man
Captain America and Iron Man Are Getting Their Time to Shine
Next year, players will be taken on a brand-new adventure through Skydance New Media's Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. This game will take them to the past and put them in the shoes of both Captain America and Black Panther as they attempt to stop Hydra at the height of World War Two. It's not just any Captain America either, but Steve Rogers himself during a very important and formative part of his life. It remains to be seen if the game's concept pans out, but even if not, it is still putting Captain America front-and-center.
If players don't prefer Steve Rogers, then there is another major Marvel game on the horizon by Motive Studio. Not much is known about this game besides the fact that players will be taking control of Iron Man in a brand-new single-player adventure. But, even with the lack of information, this game will likely be a big deal as it will be following Tony Stark himself, a treatment he rarely gets in gaming. Thanks to the MCU, he may be one of the biggest heroes Marvel has right now, so it'll be interesting to see what this video game counterpart will look like.
A Thor-Led Game Could Be Something Truly Special
That makes two out of three of the big Marvel three leading their own video game. While there is always the chance a Thor game is being worked on behind-the-scenes, as of now, nothing has been announced for the God of Thunder. That's worth changing; his story and allies could lead to a fantastic experience for fans, and if the other two Marvel characters are getting their time to shine, then there is seemingly no reason to skip him.
Thor may have played a role in Marvel's Avengers, but his last major standalone game came in the form of Thor: God of Thunder back in 2011, which served as a tie-in to his debut MCU film. Since then, he has led three additional solo films as well as played a major role in every single Avengers movie. And as of now, he is the only one of the big three that actually still remains active within the MCU (counting Sam Wilson's take on Cap as a separate character, of course). Because of that, it feels long overdue that Thor gets to lead his own video game again. With the right team behind it and story guiding it, it could feel truly special, combining Marvel's fantasy lore with high-octane, lightning-heavy combat.
Unlike the other two, Thor's entire character is built on mythology, as he is based around the actual Norse god. On top of that, his adversaries like Loki are insanely popular with fans and his powerset is unlike anything the other Avengers possess. That gives a developer so much to work with to create something unforgettable, so hopefully, someone gets the chance to do just that.
