After being accused of planting false information in the files of Marvel Rivals, two producers broke their silence, assuring fans that they've done nothing to "troll" leakers. Marvel Rivals is about to release a large update for Season 1: Eternal Night Falls on February 21, which will bring a wealth of new content to the game. Fans can expect to see Human Torch and The Thing make their debut alongside a fresh map and numerous balance changes.

It was recently rumored that NetEase Games may have planted fake Marvel Rivals content within the title's files in order to catch dataminers and leakers. Speculation spread through the community, as players were suddenly doubting every leaked skin, character, and map that had been teased online. Some gamers found a lot of humor in the situation, amused by the idea that the developers may have found a way to troll the people who reveal upcoming content prematurely.

Marvel Rivals Players Want More Duos to Have Team-Ups

Marvel Rivals players take to social media to share their own ideas about which duos need team-ups in NetEase Games' popular hero shooter.

While the rumors and speculation certainly served to spark a fire within the community, it seems as if there may be more to the story. Speaking with IGN, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo and Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu discussed the rumors that NetEase Games deliberately "trolled" dataminers to mislead them when leaking upcoming content. Wu spoke about the issue first, discouraging players from altering the title's files in any way and explaining that adding characters to Marvel Rivals is a long process with many steps. Koo mentioned that leakers looking through such data was akin to seeing someone "scratch paperwork" in a notebook without proper context.

Netease Games Isn’t ‘Trolling’ Marvel Rivals Dataminers

When asked more directly about misleading dataminers with false information planted in the hero shooter's files, Koo said "we would rather spend our time developing the actual game." This doesn't automatically mean that Ultron is coming to Marvel Rivals just because leakers found some data about his ability kit. It only means that the villain was likely considered at some point and may or may not come to the game in the future. Instead of being treated as teasers or announcements, players would be better served looking at leaks as fun possibilities.

Fans seeking new heroes will never have to wait long, as NetEase Games already stated that it intends to release a new Marvel Rivals character every six weeks. Season 1: Eternal Night Falls is an exception to the rule, as the developers wanted to bring The Fantastic Four to the title over the course of a single season. With so much content just around the corner and even more to look forward to in the future, many fans are excited to see what Marvel Rivals does next.
