One area where Marvel Rivals' roster could be improved is with its villain representation. While characters like Magneto, Loki, and Hela are great to see, Marvel Rivals currently has far more heroes than villains, though that could soon change with Ultron leaked to be joining the game sometime in the future. However, Marvel Rivals' roster wouldn't be complete without arguably the most famous Marvel villain of the modern age: the Mad Titan Thanos.

Although villains like Dr. Doom and Dracula have appeared as adversaries for Marvel Rivals Season 0 and Season 1, respectively, neither are playable yet. This leaves the game with a blind spot for villains that an iconic foe like Thanos could fill. Although Thanos hasn't been confirmed—or even leaked—for Marvel Rivals, he holds a lot of potential to be a dynamic character with a kit that both fits his comic and film appearances while also adding something new to Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals: What Could Deadpool's Kit Look Like?

Marvel Rivals is full of iconic and beloved Marvel characters, but one character has been a glaring omission so far given his massive popularity.

Predicting a Potential Kit for Thanos in Marvel Rivals

Thanos' Potential Role in Marvel Rivals

Given Thanos' size and physical prowess, the imposing stature of the Mad Titan makes him most likely to be a Vanguard in Marvel Rivals. Vanguards tend to have a lot of health with some type of shield or barrier to help mitigate damage as they create space for the rest of their team. Although Thanos doesn't really have the means to use a shield like Doctor Strange or Magneto, he could easily fill a similar role to that of Thor or Venom with a passive that grants bonus health when using certain abilities since Thanos is known to be nearly invulnerable due to the powers Death bestowed upon him.

Thanos' Kit Could Revolve Around Use of the Infinity Stones

Thanos is primarily known to fight in hand-to-hand combat thanks to his immense physical strength as an Eternal, meaning his primary attack will likely be a simple punch similar to Hulk. However, the ideal Marvel Rivals design for Thanos would include the Infinity Gauntlet, which could allow for a secondary attack that lets him charge up and perform a dashing punch with the gauntlet similar to Overwatch 2's Doomfist. Where Thanos could potentially differ and get creative with his kit is through the use of the Infinity Stones housed within the gauntlet.

There are six total Infinity Stones, but Marvel Rivals would likely only be able to work a few of them into Thanos' kit without making it feel too complicated or overpowered. The Space Stone seems like a strong basis for one of Thanos' skills, as it could allow him the ability to teleport a certain distance across the map, much like Reaper's Shadow Step skill in Overwatch 2. Another one of Thanos' abilities could be based on the Power Stone, potentially allowing him to provide a damage buff to himself and allies within range for a short period of time. Marvel Rivals could even give Thanos the use of the Time Stone and allow him to return his health and position to where it was a few seconds earlier, similar to Tracer's Recall ability in Overwatch 2.

Thanos' Marvel Rivals Ultimate Would Need to Walk a Fine Line

Likely the most difficult part of designing a Marvel Rivals kit for Thanos would be creating an Ultimate that represents his in-universe power while not being overpowered within the confines of the game. Thanos' snap from Avengers: Infinity War—which wiped out half of all life in the universe—is one of the things the character is best known for, so using this moment as the basis for his Marvel Rivals Ultimate would make sense. However, rather than making it something like a direct copy of Scarlet Witch's Reality Erasure, having Thanos' Ultimate immediately reduce every enemy hero's max health by half for a brief period could be a way to get a similar effect while still fitting with the character thematically.
