Summary

  • Fans criticize Marvel Rivals for difficulty in obtaining nameplates without spending money.
  • A Reddit user proposed converting Lore Banners into nameplate rewards to address the issue.
  • Players argue that Proficiency rewards should include nameplates to showcase skill and mastery.

Marvel Rivals fans are criticizing how the game dishes out rewards, specifically nameplates, which can be hard to come by if players aren't willing to spend real-life money. However, one player has a simple solution that could solve this problem, and it involves changing the way Proficiency Points work. These special points are one way for players to progress in Marvel Rivals, which also feature several other categories of rewards.

While released merely a month ago, it's clear Marvel Rivals is a game that is here to stay, at least for a little while, with the game recently dropping its highly anticipated Season 1 update. Launched in December 2024, Marvel Rivals debuted with its Season 0 cycle, which includes a small amount of rewards and skins for players to unlock. Marvel Rivals' Season 1 battle pass, on the other hand, includes a ton more pages to progress through, with a total of ten character skins featured. Skins are just one way for players to customize their Marvel Rivals experience, with items like nameplates, sprays, and emotes also being included in the game's battle passes. However, players aren't exactly thrilled with one item, leading to a discussion online.

Reddit user DaPurpleDerpleOf shared a post on the Marvel Rivals fan hub criticizing how the game dishes out Lore Banners and nameplates. Aside from skins, nameplates are perhaps the most prominent way for players to distinguish themselves from others, though they can be a grind to actually unlock in the battle pass. Some nameplates are only available for purchase using real-life money, something a decent number of players will likely never do. Some fans also argue that Lore Banners look cooler than nameplates. A solution was shared by this Reddit user: convert Lore Banners into Nameplate rewards.

Marvel Rivals Fans Criticize Game's Reward System

Aside from battle pass progression, Marvel Rivals also features Proficiency Points. These points are given out by simply putting time into Marvel Rivals' collection of characters, dealing damage, and knocking out enemies. A variety of rewards can be unlocked in the game's Proficiency system, but Marvel Rivals fans argue nameplates should be one of them. “Proficiency rewards are super lacking. I hope they add more tiers and rewards down the line,” one player said, while another called the idea a "no-brainer." It's definitely satisfying to receive rewards like sprays and other items as players learn and master each character, but nameplates seem like a great way to also show their proficiency.

As stated earlier, Marvel Rivals recently kicked off its Season 1 update, which made a plethora of changes to how the game's roster both looks and works. Perhaps the biggest addition to the game is the arrival of both Sue Storm and Mister Fantastic of The Fantastic Four. These two characters have certainly shaken up the formula within Marvel Rivals, with the game also getting new maps and modes. The rest of The Fantastic Four crew are set to launch at a later date, with Season 1 of Marvel Rivals expected to last until mid-April.
