Marvel Rivals Reveals Patch Notes for September 2025 Update

NetEase releases a brand-new update for the popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals, fixing bugs, adding new features, and kicking off the second Summer Special event. The event brings another dash of summer to the popular hero shooter, even giving Marvel Rivals players a chance to unlock some free cosmetics as well.

As with most hero shooters, cosmetics are a massive part of the experience and are capable of drawing in more players if done right. Marvel Rivals continues to make waves in this department as it continues to add new characters each season, most recently with Angela and Daredevil. However, Marvel Rivals players really seemed to enjoy the first Summer Special limited time event, giving characters like Psylocke, Thor, Luna Snow, and more swimsuit costumes. Now, Marvel Rivals is looking to reignite that excitement once more with a second Summer Special event.

Marvel Rivals surprises players by giving them a first look at the roadmap for Season 4 of NetEase Games' popular hero shooter.

For many players, the biggest part of this update is the arrival of another Summer Special event, which brings about new swimsuit outfits for Mantis, Johnny "Human Torch" Storm, and The Thing. Players can complete matches to earn XP for the new battle pass, with a premium track offering even more items. Players can unlock The Thing's "Rocky Tide" outfit for free, and, similar to previous battle passes, purchasing the premium version makes it permanently accessible in Marvel Rivals, allowing players to complete it at their own pace.

Outside the Summer Special event, the update also adds premium Punisher and Invisible Woman summer cosmetic bundles as well as a free limited-time Volleyball Bash group emote. Chat channels now support player expression through emojis, font colors, special characters, and more. Replay Data has been enhanced to showcase more detailed stats than before. Plenty of bugs havce also been squashed as well, including one that gives the Marvel Rivals Season 4 hero Angela an excessively large head while playing Giant-Size Brain Blast.

Marvel Rivals Potentially Introducing Loot Boxes

As a live service title, Marvel Rivals is always evolving in an effort to keep the game feeling fresh for players. This includes frequent updates as well as larger seasonal content changes. However, a new rumor teases that loot boxes could be coming to Marvel Rivals, a mechanic that has certainly seen its fair share of controversies over the years in games like Star Wars Battlefront and Overwatch. Dataminers came across files that referenced a player component called "Mysteries," which many have taken to be the in-development codename for loot boxes.

Loki's Mischievous Metamorphosis: Fixed a bug where, if Loki used his Ultimate Ability to transform into a costumed Adam Warlock and was KO'd and revived via Regenerative Cocoon, he'd come back wearing Adam's default costume. No more wardrobe malfunctions in the Multiverse!
Ultron's Palm Pilot Precision: Tweaked the starting points for Ultron's Encephalo-Ray and Nano-Ray attacks so they now fire perfectly from his palm. Less off-align blasts, more robotic perfection!
Luna Snow's Dance Upgrade: Polished the animation for Luna Snow's Ultimate Ability. Her moves are now smooth enough to impress even Star-Lord at a Guardians dance-off. Luna's Cool Summer Costume will be fixed next patch to nail the perfect dance dancing on the center of her Jellyfish.
