The same "Timestream Entanglement" that endangers many different Marvel universes also brings together dozens of heroes and villains, forcing them to team up or fight each other regardless of personal differences and prior associations. The same goes for Marvel Rivals maps, which put twists on various Marvel multiverse locations, including the Galactic Empire of Wakanda, Tokyo 2099, and Hydra's Antarctic Charteris Base.

For one unfortunate player going by moorhound on Reddit, that very Marvel Rivals Hydra base map was where the legendary X-Men villain Magneto met an embarrassing end. In a clip, moorhound showed the Master of Magnetism being flattened by a map gimmick that causes a large rail-mounted structure to shift position, swapping places with a huge building. During an attempt to cross into another part of the level, moorhound falls into a gap opened by a retracting bridge. Unable to find a safe place as the walls close in, they are then squished and eliminated, the camera clipping through Magneto's head to show his face from the inside out.

While the level change mechanic is one way to keep the many maps of Marvel Rivals fresh over repeated matches and plays, the clip ably demonstrates how changing the level layout on a player can lead to a frustrating death. Moorhound was able to see where they wanted to go, but simply was unable to jump over the rails to cross the sudden gap or move to safety and avoid being crushed.

Among commenters, the clip also raised questions about the Marvel Rivals interpretation of Magneto himself. They wondered why the in-game Magneto would be unable to surmount a simple chest-high barrier, when he's almost always depicted floating in the air thanks to his mastery of magnetism. The observation led to suggestions that Marvel Rivals add mantling for more players, or perhaps a flight ability to Magneto. Some players also pointed out that moorhound was not completely trapped in the danger zone. That section of the level has a set of exit stairs that they could've spotted had they calmly turned around instead of panicking.

Though funny, the incident highlights some of the way level design can affect the fates of even skilled and experienced players, both in Marvel Rivals and other competitive games. It's also an ample demonstration of how, in the heat of the moment, nervous players can miss things that look obvious to outside observers.
