Leaked Marvel Rivals Maps Could Pave the Way for an X-Men…

Marvel Rivals leaks have played a large role in community discussion ever since it launched. Role queue and other in-game matters have driven plenty of discourse as well, but leaks have the potential to reveal more about the future of Marvel Rivals. While potential playable characters are often the most exciting information, other leaks could prove to be just as important.

Marvel Rivals maps have come to the forefront, with one leak potentially revealing three upcoming maps. Two of the three have a shared heritage in recent Marvel Comics, with Krakoa and Arakko being sibling Mutant Nations. Considering Krakoa already has a heavy influence over Marvel Rivals lore, its arrival as a playable map could herald the coming of one of the X-Men's most iconic villains.

Why Marvel Rivals Krakoa and Arakko Map Leaks Could Usher in an Age of Apocalypse

Marvel Rivals Map Leaks Explained

Marvel Rivals leaks have varied greatly in how credible one might be compared to another. This distinction is simply rooted in the fact that some have produced physical assets, while others have not. For example, Mr. Fantastic's character model was leaked long before he was officially revealed alongside the rest of The Fantastic Four. Although they have yet to be officially unveiled, Ultron and Blade have been leaked with similar levels of seemingly verifiable evidence.

By contrast, other leaks have been limited to datamines. In short, a leaker will claim they have unearthed evidence of something within the game, typically the name of a character and their abilities detailed in code. These are simply harder to verify, although it should be noted that the game's launch roster was accurately leaked through a similar method. Marvel Rivals map leaks were discovered in the very same fashion, so they should be taken with a grain of salt. However, there's no denying that they would have massive implications if proven true.

X-Men's Krakoa and Arakko Explained

The three maps leaked for Marvel Rivals were Krakoa, Arakko, and New York City. Interestingly enough, it seems that the New York map has been confirmed to exist, and may be added to the game with The Fantastic Four. This helps lend credibility to the leaks of Krakoa and Arakko, which is especially helpful for the latter.

Krakoa is one of the most perfect X-Men maps that developers could have considered, perhaps rivaled only by Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Krakoa has not only been very recently relevant to Marvel Comics but it is heavily mentioned within Marvel Rivals' lore itself. Similar to its comic book counterpart, the Marvel Rivals rendition of Krakoa is a safe haven for all Mutants, and was founded in part by Magneto. Magneto led the nation alongside Professor X and Apocalypse, but it is unclear if this has been changed in Marvel Rivals.

Arakko is a bit more obscure by comparison. While Krakoa was the flagship of X-Men comics for years, Arakko was more contained within specific stories and likely doesn't have the same level of recognition among more casual readers. Arakko is essentially a sibling to Krakoa, with the Mutant islands being separated from one another millennia ago. During that time, Arakko was led largely by Genesis, the estranged wife of Apocalypse.

Marvel Rivals Could Add Apocalypse in the Wake of Krakoa and Arakko

There are a surprising number of X-Men characters missing from Marvel Rivals. Krakoa and Arakko were both Mutant nations, and their addition to the game naturally leads one to believe that more Mutant characters will follow shortly after. This may even be the case if leaks around Jean Grey and Emma Frost are to be believed. That said, Apocalypse in particular holds such a strong connection to both Krakoa and Arakko that their arrival in Marvel Rivals should mean that he would soon follow.

Furthermore, Apocalypse wields a vast arsenal of abilities that would lend itself well to a unique kit. Apocalypse's immense stature, remarkable durability, and power to change the properties of his body at will would all make Apocalypse a perfect Vanguard. Marvel Rivals desperately needs more Vanguards, which makes Apocalypse's inclusion all the more promising.

Apocalypse serves as an important figure for both Krakoa and Arakko in the comics, and he could reprise his role with them in Marvel Rivals. This would make him a vital part of the game's lore, similar to how Marvel Rivals has teased Knull through the Klyntar map. Apocalypse spent most of his history as a formidable foe to the X-Men and is perhaps their most iconic villain behind Magneto. If Krakoa and Arakko come to Marvel Rivals after all, then Apocalypse shouldn't be far behind.
