The Marvel Rivals competitive grind can be frustrating, especially when you feel like the difference between winning or losing is out of your control. To make ranked matches a little more forgiving, Marvel Rivals has introduced Chrono Shield Cards that allow players to prevent a point loss after losing a competitive game. They can only be obtained in a few specific ways, though, and there are limits in place to stop players from abusing this system.
Chrono Shields are nothing new in Marvel Rivals, and players have been using them to soften the blow of losing streaks since the game's launch. There was no way to manually enable a Chrono Shield until the addition of Chrono Shield Cards, however, which now let players choose when they want to activate the safety net. It's not as simple as it may seem, though, and some Marvel Rivals players won't even be able to use them in the first place.
Marvel Rivals Player Shares Neat UI Idea
A Marvel Rivals player shares an incredible UI idea, and shows how the game would look with the addition of this quality-of-life feature.
What is a Chrono Shield in Marvel Rivals?
A Chrono Shield is a passive ability in Marvel Rivals that prevents players from dropping points after a competitive loss. Chrono Shields charge in the background as players lose Marvel Rivals matches, so a competitive losing streak will quickly recharge a player's Chrono Shield and nullify their next defeat.
How to Get Chrono Shield Cards in Marvel Rivals
Chrono Shield Cards allow players to manually charge their Chrono Shields before jumping into a competitive Marvel Rivals match, essentially letting you pick and choose when you want to stop losing points in ranked mode.
Chrono Shield Cards can only be obtained via special methods like events and limited-time modes, particularly the Galacta's Gift event that all Marvel Rivals players have access to. Galacta's Gift rewards players with a total of eight Chrono Shield Cards. Only one Galacta's Gift reward can be claimed per day, however, so there's some grinding in your future if you want to stock up. Chrono Shield Cards also expire at the end of each season, so they can't be hoarded.
There are also some restrictions in place to prevent players from abusing Chrono Shield Cards. For one, Chrono Shield Cards cannout be purchased with real money or in-game
currency like Units. Also, Chrono Shield Cards can only be used in bronze, silver, and gold ranks, so high-level Marvel Rivals players aren't able to prevent losses.
Chrono Shield Cards have proven controversial among the Marvel Rivals community, but they're here to stay. More of them will be given out in future Marvel Rivals events, too, so keep an eye out for any potential Chrono Shield Card rewards down the line.
