NetEase Games revealed patch notes for its April 30 update for Marvel Rivals, which includes a new event, several bug fixes, and highly requested changes to Doctor Strange's Multiverse of Madness skin. The April 30 update makes notable changes to Marvel Rivals ahead of the bigger mid-season update in May.
On April 25, it was confirmed that NetEase Games is adding a shroud of zombie hands to Doctor Strange's controversial skin in Marvel Rivals. The skin is modeled after the hero's undead appearance near the end of the MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Before the skin was added to the game, the promotional artwork and preview showed Doctor Strange's skin with a shroud of zombie hands around his shoulders and head. However, fans weren't pleased after purchasing the skin, since the zombie hands were not present. The extra limbs only appear when using two of the Vanguard abilities, disappointing players even further since they felt misled by NetEase Games. The developers took this feedback seriously for the April 30 update, which directly addresses the issue and several bugs in the game.
Marvel Rivals' Biggest Victory is as Subtle as It Is Important
Comparisons between Marvel Rivals and Overwatch were always going to be inevitable, but NetEase has certainly surpassed Blizzard in one important way.
Patch notes for the Marvel Rivals April 30 update have been released, confirming that the Hellfire Gaia: Moments event will begin on May 2. During the event, players can earn Wolverine's Patch series costume and rewards for free until May 23. Moreover, Doctor Strange's Multiverse of Madness skin gains "enhanced visual details and voice effects to more accurately capture the essence of the costume theme." This means that the skin has its undead zombie hands as originally advertised. Thor's Hero of Asgard skin has been adjusted as well to improve visibility and ensure the crosshair isn't obstructed.
Further, the April 30 update introduces the new Winter Soldier - Thunderbolts and Black Panther - Damisa-Sarki bundles into the Marvel Rivals in-game store. The update brings some new features as well, including the ability to switch all costume-specific sound effects back to the default ones in the Settings menu. NetEase Games also recalibrated the baseline data for calculating performance scores for heroes, and accounts that were locked can now initiate the deletion process, even from a logged-out state.
Lastly, the latest update brings a variety of bug fixes to hero abilities. For example, Wolverine's Aerial Annihilator Ultimate will receive a fix to ensure midair knockbacks deal damage, and a speed decay glitch when using Star-Lord's Rocket Revamp was fixed. More bug fixes and adjustments are coming in the Marvel Rivals Season 2 mid-season update.

Fixes
All Platforms
Maps and Modes
- Squashed a bug in Competitive where an occasional map glitch incorrectly displayed check point gate statuses.
- Reined in some mischief in the final part of the Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown map where Loki's illusions could be placed in unexpected locations.
- Fixed an issue in Giant-Size Brain Blast where destroying enemy summons would also count toward enlarging heroes' heads.
Heroes
- Stealth Special Breaker: We've sliced through a glitch where if Wolverine responds to a Fastball Special request while within Invisible Woman's ultimate, it would sometimes result in abnormal invisibility effects.
- An Unexpected Thing: We've rocked out a fix for an issue that allowed The Thing's Embattled Leap to target teammates within an enemy Invisible Woman's ultimate. Now, he'll be as clueless as he should be.
- Cloak & Dagger's Shield Shenanigans: We've zapped a bug where their ultimate would sneakily still do damage to foes protected by Magneto's Iron Bulwark or Hulk's Indestructible Guard—talk about an unexpected plot twist!
- Wolverine's Aerial Annihilator: Fixed a flaw in the second stage of his ultimate where midair knockbacks lost their bite and dealt no damage. Now, when Wolverine soars into the fray, every strike is felt with the raw power of a true berserker!
- Star-Lord's Rocket Revamp: Eliminated an occasional speed decay glitch in his Rocket Propulsion ability, impacting his smooth movement. Now, every blast-off is as snappy and daring as a mixtape drop from the Milano!
- Mister Fantastic's Fantastic Flex Fix: We've untangled an issue in his Flexible Elongation ability where hitting targets inside portals caused unexpected displacement. Now, when Mister Fantastic bends the limits of physics, his moves are as smart and precise as his genius!
- Ascender's Altitude Assurance: Fixed a network instability-related bug that could sometimes abruptly yank wall-climbing heroes back to the ground after reaching the highest point. Now, every climb is as steady and heroic as your soaring ambitions!
