There's been no shortage of mobile Marvel video games over the last decade or so. Plenty have come and gone over the years, like Marvel Avengers Academy. Some were shutdown before their time, like Spider-Man Unlimited. And a handful are still going strong years after release, like Marvel Contest of Champions. NetEase's Marvel Mystic Mayhem is the latest to roll the dice.
A team-based tactical mobile RPG, Marvel Mystic Mayhem sees a roster of almost 30 Marvel characters join forces to take down the Lord of Dreams, a villain attempting to corrupt the minds of the universe's greatest heroes. Marvel Mystic Mayhem just came out, but its roster is already walking in the same footsteps as NetEase's other incredibly popular superhero game, Marvel Rivals.
Marvel Rivals' Upcoming Punisher Skin Opens a Pandora's Box the Game Can't Close
While this new Punisher skin is sure to excite the Marvel Rivals community, it also highlights a glaring omission within the game.
Marvel Mystic Mayhem's Current Meta Looks a Lot Like Marvel Rivals'
Hulk, Emma Frost, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange Are The Best Marvel Mystic Mayhem Heroes Right Now
At the time of writing, Marvel Mystic Mayhem has been available for only a day. But there's already a clear meta starting to form. Marvel Mystic Mayhem's roster is split into four separate classes: Defender, Controller, Striker, and Fighter. Defenders serve as Mystic Mayhem's frontline tanks. Controllers are backline support heroes. Strikers are long-range attackers. And Fighters are melee-focused characters.
There are 26 heroes currently on Marvel Mystic Mayhem's roster, and these four are at the very top of their respective classes:
- The Hulk in Marvel Mystic Mayhem: One of the game's best Defenders, The Hulk is the ultimate tank, second only to Armor. Hulk's attacks pack a powerful punch, and his skills deal AoE damage while also knocking back and debuffing enemies. Hulk's Ultimate sees him unleashing a Gamma-powered attack that deals almost 300% of his regular damage, and heals him for 32% of his maximum HP.
- Iron Man in Marvel Mystic Mayhem: An S-Tier Striker, Iron Man's kit revolves around powerful AoE attacks. His Unibeam skill damages enemies in a straight line, while his Blaster Array skill deals immense damage to a large target area. Iron Man's Ultimate calls in the Iron Legion to deliver another brutal AoE attack.
- Emma Frost in Marvel Mystic Mayhem: At the very top of the Controller class, Emma Frost's abilities center around debuffing enemies and healing allies. Queen's Command deals damage and applies the Confused status effect, which causes enemies to target one another. Mind Flayer heals the ally with the lowest HP. And Emma Frost's Queen of Diamonds Ultimate creates a diamond shard in the center of the target area that increases the damage taken by nearby enemies.
- Doctor Strange in Marvel Mystic Mayhem: Right alongside Emma Frost at the head of the Controller class is Doctor Strange, a hero whose skills stun enemies and both buff and heal allies simultaneously.
Hulk, Emma Frost, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange Are All High-Tier Heroes in Marvel Rivals Season 2.5
In what's likely just a fun coincidence, some of Marvel Mystic Mayhem's best characters are also at the top of Marvel Rivals Season 2.5's meta. Though the meta changes every time there's a new round of nerfs and buffs, some of Marvel Rivals' most consistent heroes in the last month or so have been Emma Frost, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Hulk.
It'll be interesting to see if Marvel Mystic Mayhem's meta continues to follow in Marvel Rivals' footsteps, or whether it'll develop a more distinct roster in the future thanks to its unique roster.
