This possibility is exciting as it opens up the film for various storyline ideas, but for Hulk to work in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel Studios needs to make an important change to Mark Ruffalo's character.

Marvel Needs To Revert Hulk Back To Savage Mode In Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It's Time For Hulk To Go Back To The Basics To Enhance Him

The idea of adding Hulk into Spider-Man: Brand New Day is interesting, as he's a very popular character within the franchise. Ruffalo has done a terrific job bringing him to life, and no matter how many times Marvel has tweaked the character, he has always adapted to try and make it feel entertaining. However, Hulk needs to revert back to his original savage mode if he's getting drafted into other Marvel movies beyond Avengers films. The constant changes to his character have devalued him; opting to tap into Bruce Banner's intelligence and blending it with the big green monster has ensured the character no longer has the same fear factor or presence.

Hulk has been adapted and changed multiple times, and while some of those tweaks have worked, Hulk has become more of a comedic character than anything else. That's not what Spider-Man: Brand New Day needs, as taking time away from Peter Parker to provide Hulk with some moments of laughter won't benefit the film on the whole. It's now time for him to go back to the basics; if this is the movie to do that, then it will be a positive situation. Fans want to see Hulk as he was in the original Avengers movie, where he was causing mass destruction to the point that the Hulk Buster suit had to be created. That version of Hulk, alongside Spider-Man's chatty personality, has the potential to be pure entertainment, with Hulk being a character that works best when he's kept simple.

One way that Marvel could alter Hulk would be to make him the villain of this movie. When Hulk is at his most powerful and destructive, he's challenging to stop, and he can cause a lot of damage to innocent people. That would lead to the world needing a hero to step up and nullify him, which is the type of role the friendly neighborhood hero would take on. Something could trigger Hulk to go back to the basics in a bid to set that up, or he could be in a situation similar to his role in Thor: Ragnarok, where he's being positioned as a villain for a small portion of the film to showcase that side of him. The idea of Spider-Man fighting Hulk is an exciting one that's visually impressive, putting the web-slinger in an actual underdog position, which is when he works the best. That would ensure Marvel's decision to use Hulk in this movie is worthwhile, as fans could root for Spider-Man against all odds one more time.

Whether Hulk ends up being the film's villain will remain to be seen, but the one thing that's for sure is that he cannot play the goofy sidekick to Peter Parker. Bruce Banner could be a mentor or someone who fights alongside Spider-Man, but he must be shown more seriously. Marvel has devalued Hulk for too long, to the point where he no longer feels like one of the most powerful and feared characters within the franchise, despite that being how he should be positioned. That version of Hulk isn't something people need to see in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as Holland's character would be better off having a comedic bromance with someone his age if that's going to be the case.

If Marvel refuses to make the necessary changes to Hulk, they risk killing off his character once and for all in the eyes of the fans. People don't want to see him being goofy alongside one of Marvel's youngest heroes, Peter Parker, and that type of partnership wouldn't help Spider-Man either. He has been handled well up until this point, becoming more intelligent and emotional based on the traumatic situations he has been put through, and that's why he doesn't need to be pulled back by dealing with this version of Hulk. There's potential in Ruffalo appearing throughout Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the execution must be spot on for it to be worthwhile.
