Marvel Reveals First Wonder Man Footage & Confirms Six Shows For 2025

Marvel Studios has revealed its Disney+ plans for 2025, with a first look at six new shows coming to the streaming platform. The new releases are a mix of live-action and animated series with notable characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe returning.

It’s been almost four years since the MCU branched out into television shows on Disney+. The studio came out of the gate swinging with five TV series in its first year, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, and the animated series What If…?. Fast-forward to 2024 and Marvel Studios has released 12 television shows, some with multiple seasons. In mid-2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger said Marvel was planning to “decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year.” However, that will not be the case in 2025.

Marvel Studios Announces 2025 Disney+ Shows

A new trailer released by Marvel Studios showcases several upcoming Disney+ releases in the MCU. The studio is rounding out 2024 with the release of What If..? Season 3, with new episodes featuring characters like Shang-Chi and Blade. Marvel will also release three new series from Marvel Animation in 2025, including the Peter Parker prequel Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the R-Rated Marvel Zombies series, and the Black Panther anthology series Eyes of Wakanda. The studio will also release three live-action MCU series in 2025, including Daredevil: Born Again, the Riri Williams spin-off series Ironheart, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Wonder Man.

New footage for all seven Disney+ series was included in the trailer, but perhaps the most notable was the reveal of Wonder Man, a series about which little is known. The series is created by Spider-Man 4 and Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Hawkeye’s Andrew Guest. Wonder Man is set to be a comedy superhero series, starring Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, an actor and stuntman who gains superpowers and becomes the hero Wonder Man.

First Wonder Man Footage Revealed

The first footage in the Disney+ trailer shows Simon Williams entering a casting office where he prepares to audition for the role of Wonder Man. Williams says “I was born to play this character,” and is seen alongside Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery, another character who is a known actor within the MCU. Kingsley was last seen in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but it makes sense he would appear in another MCU series that features on-screen actors. It appears Wonder Man will position Williams and Slattery as an unlikely duo, with the two getting into a car chase at one point in the footage. “We’ve both got a lot riding on this, you’d better not mess this up,” Slattery says. It’s unclear what the pair’s plan is, but judging by the short snippet shown Wonder Man does seem to be taking advantage of its comedy genre. The series will be Marvel’s last Disney+ release of 2025.

Marvel’s 2025 Disney+ slate comes after a relatively quiet year for the studio. Echo was released on Disney+ in January, followed by the MCU’s only theatrical release, Deadpool & Wolverine, in July, and then Agatha All Along will reach its conclusion by the end of October. It appears the studio intends to make up for lost time in 2025 with six new streaming series and three theatrical releases.
