Countless stars and other authors have praised King's work, with George R.R. Martin exclaiming over how much he enjoyed reading The Institute, which was adapted for MGM+ and will premiere in July 2025. Mark Hamill Explained Why Fans Will Love Stephen King's The Life Of Chuck
In an interview with TODAY.com, Mark Hamill shared why everyone should see The Life of Chuck. He said:
"It's so positive. It's so optimistic about life. It also teaches you there are moments that, in life, you think are trivial that collectively become very important."
Hamill also said:
"please see it. Trust me, you'll thank me later."
It might be surprising to hear that one of Stephen King's movies is uplifting and heartfelt since his stories mainly focus on evil villains, children in dire situations, and the paranormal. Hamill also told TODAY.com that while King has written some non-horror stories, such as The Body (which was renamed Stand By Me for the film adaptation) and The Green Mile, The Life of Chuck is "nothing like Stephen King has ever written before." The actor also called it a "once in a lifetime" movie, which is definitely high praise.
King himself said he wasn't sure how the movie would fare because it's sweet rather than scary, but so far, reviews are fairly mixed. The Life of Chuck has an 81% Rotten Tomatoes rating and critics have said some positive things, but the consensus is that it feels incomplete. However, King's fans will likely want to see it thanks to the talented cast and the fact that Mike Flanagan wrote and directed it. Flanagan is busy adapting several of King's eerie stories for the small screen as he's working on a unique Carrie TV show for Amazon and the highly anticipated Dark Tower series.
Hamill is no stranger to King's work as, besides playing Chuck's grandfather Albie Krantz in The Life of Chuck, he stars in The Long Walk as the Major, a memorable and tough character. Directed by Francis Lawrence of The Hunger Games fame, the upcoming film tells a sad story of teenagers who are competing in a lengthy walk that they might not survive. The Long Walk will arrive in theaters on September 12th, 2025, and after checking it out, fans might not have a long wait for the next King project: the prequel IT: Welcome to Derry, which should premiere on HBO Max in the fall months. While The Life of Chuck might be a happier story than Salem's Lot or IT, The Long Walk and Welcome to Derry will feature the horrors that King's fans are more used to seeing in his amazing work.
