Players are going to find a lot of armor in Mario & Luigi: Brothership and a lot of the pieces they find in the later game will be upgraded forms of previous types. Usually, a better piece of armor will be marked by the "DX" signature which is a staple in the Mario franchise for upgraded games. For example, the Game Boy Color port of the first game is called Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, or Super Mario Bros. DX for short.

7 Bros. Wear DX

Defense 77

Bros. Wear DX armor in Mario & Luigi Brothership
  • Bonus Effect: Recover 2 BP When Hit
  • Location: Offandon Island

The Bros. Wear DX can be found on Offandon Island in a treasure chest. Offandon Island is the place players will wind up after escaping an attack involving Bowser fighting Zokket’s army which catches Shipshape Island in the crossfire. These pair of overalls are great as they can recover a small amount of BP when the equipped character gets hit. BP is the magic system of Mario & Luigi: Brothership like how MP equates to abilities in other RPGs. The Bros. Wear DX are not the overalls players will want to wear in the final battle but they will still be useful for a good portion of these latter chapters.

6 Astonishing Wear

Defense 1119

Astonishing Wear armor in Mario & Luigi Brothership
  • Bonus Effect: N/A
  • Location: Jellyfish Island

The Astonishing Wear overalls do not have any attached bonuses. They can be acquired easily through one of the many shops at the end of the game though. Most shopkeepers will stock this armor like the one found on Jellyfish Island.

8 Best Quotes From Mario & Luigi: Brothership

These lines from Mario & Luigi: Brothership hit hard!

What they lack in bonuses they will more than make up for with a strong defensive boost. If players have no better options at the time, they should buy a pair for their Mario and Luigi heroes.

5 Zokket Wear

Defense 128/Speed 4

Zokket Wear armor in Mario & Luigi Brothership
  • Bonus Effect: 30% Less Damage When A Brother Is Knocked Out Or Gone
  • Location: Fortress Zokket

The Zokket Wear has a nice Defense stat but it has a bonus increase too via the Speed stat in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. They can be found in a treasure chest within Fortress Zokket, which is the second to last major dungeon in the game. A higher Speed stat will allow that character to act first in battle. So, if Mario and Luigi outrank all enemies via Speed, players may be able to defeat them all without them getting a single turn. Speed aside, The Zokket Wear will also boost Defense if a brother is knocked out or gone from battle for whatever reason.

4 Blocky Hammer Wear DX

Defense 128/Speed 4

Blocky Hammer Wear DX armor in Mario & Luigi Brothership
  • Bonus Effect: A Missed Counter Boosts Defense By 20%
  • Location: Dropplet Islet

The Blocky Hammer Wear DX can be found in a treasure on Dropplet Islet. Islets are smaller areas to explore without any story attachments usually. Sometimes they can contain a single chest and sometimes they will have a mini-game attached. Players should keep an eye out for them while sailing around in the open waters of the game. Islets aside, the Blocky Hammer Wear DX will boost Defense if players miss a counter and these overalls will also increase Speed when equipped.

3 Great Conductor Wear

Defense 128/Stache 12

Great Conductor Wear armor in Mario & Luigi Brothership
  • Location: Conductor Island

The Great Conductor Wear can be acquired through a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Through the story, players will come across Conductor Island wherein they will meet a godly character aptly named The Great Conductor. After leaving, players can come back to complete The Lonely Great Conductor side quest requiring players to bring this giant pig-like god some food. There is no bonus effect but it does boost the Stache stat along with Defense. Higher Stache points mean that players can perform a greater number of critical hits or get rare loot drops in battle.

2 Repel Wear DX

Defense 140

Repel Wear DX armor in Mario & Luigi Brothership
  • Bonus Effect: More Enemies, Less Damage
  • Location: Morsel Islet

The Repel Wear DX is located on another Islet, this one being Morsel Islet. The basic Defense stat is high and the bonus is a bit of a gamble, but taking high risks in RPGs is something that a lot of hardcore players like to do anyway.

Using Fire & Ice and UFO Spin Bros. Moves in Mario & Luigi Brothership

They may look weird, but these skills can get these two plumbers far while exploring.

If there are a high amount of enemies in battle, that equipped hero will take less damage. Unfortunately, when enemy numbers start to drop, that hero will take more damage. It’s best not to equip it before a boss battle in Mario & Luigi: Brothership in other words.

1 Full-Belly Wear DX

Defense 145

Full-Belly Wear DX armor in Mario & Luigi Brothership
  • Bonus Effect: Full HP Boosts Defense By 30%
  • Location: Soli-Tree

The Full-Belly Wear DX can be acquired in the final dungeon, the Soli-Tree. These overalls are not in a treasure chest though as they are attached to the enemy called Seedlusa. Seedlusas have a chance to drop this armor after combat and there are ways to increase these chances from higher Stache points to equipping Plugs in Mario & Luigi: Brothership like Loot Booster. The Full-Belly Wear DX has some of the highest Defense stats in the game plus they will boost Defense in battle if the equipped hero has a full HP bar. The effect will be negated the second that HP drops below 100%.
