The first Wordle of the month of March is here. In order to play the game today and win, players might want a little help with the rules, some strategy for winning Wordle, or even some clues for the full answer.
How To Play Wordle
Wordle is a browser-based word game that went viral in early 2022. Its ease of play, simple layout, and the versatility of the rules made it a great target for clones and copycats, and this means there are tons of Wordles out there. The original version and the subject of this article is the New York Times version, which can only be found on the NYT Games site or the NYT Crossword app. Other versions of Wordle will have different answers and can have different rules than what are listed here.
To play, first choose the best starting Wordle word. This word:
- Must be a real English five-letter word.
- Must not be a proper noun.
- Should not be a previous answer.
- Should not be a plural noun ending in S.
- Must not be an offensive word or any of the other words removed by the New York Times from Wordle.
- Should have five different letters in it.
Take this great starter word and type it into the first line of the Wordle grid. Next, press enter and watch the colors of the letters change. Each color has a different meaning, giving players new clues to the answer and getting them a little bit closer to the word.
- Those letters that turn green are correct.
- If the letters become gray, they are incorrect.
- Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.
Given these clues, try a new word and get new clues from its letters. Players have a total of six tries to get to the answer of the day.
