To help upgrade Burgage Plots in Manor Lords and keep their population appropriately fed, players will need to ensure they get their hands on multiple sources of food. Although Berries can be easy to harvest and Meat is available via hunting, players can amass quite a bit of Bread each year if they know how to create fields and grow Wheat. Although the process can seem a bit convoluted, Bread offers a good source of food that can carry players through the harsh winter months each year when food is scarce. As part of the bread-making process, Lords and Ladies will need to construct a Windmill, which is responsible for crushing grains into flour that can then be used to bake bread in a Communal Oven or upgraded Burgage Plot.
Here's an expanded look at How to get a Windmill in Manor Lords to create Flour, and some reasons why the Windmill is not working.
Why The Windmill Isn't Working In Manor Lords
The main reason the Windmill isn't working is that players do not yet have any Grain present in the building. At first glance it may seem like all players need to make Flour is Wheat, but there is an extra step that takes place between the Wheat being harvested and the Flour being made in the Windmill. The Wheat will first need to be threshed into Grain inside the Farmhouse before it is transported to the Windmill. Unfortunately, workers inside the Farmhouse will not thresh the Wheat into Grain until all of their other duties have been taken care of, including harvesting and sowing the fields. Thankfully, players can increase the Threshing Priority by accessing the Farmhouse and changing it on the Advanced Tab. A higher priority means workers will focus more on turning Wheat into Grain.
Here are some reasons that the Windmill is not working in Manor Lords:
- Players do not yet have Grain and must first wait until workers inside the Farmhouse have turned harvested Wheat into Grain. Players can increase the Threshing Priority in the Advanced Tab of the Farmhouse. It can also be helpful to add more workers to the Farmhouse so that there are some available to do the threshing.
- There is no Grain in Windmill. Once players have grain, they need to wait until it is transported to the Windmill by a worker. If players place their Windmill too far from their Farmhouse, it will take even longer for any Grain created to be transported there to be turned into Flour. Because of this, players should be sure to place their Windmill as close to their Farmhouse and Fields as possible.
How To Get Flour In Manor Lords
Getting Flour in Manor Lords is a bit of a process and can be pretty confusing for players who are just starting out. Although making Bread is as straightforward as having an oven and using Flour, getting the Flour itself can be a bit of a slough. To start, players will need to first collect some Wheat. Wheat can be grown as a crop in fields and is harvested once a year (between September and November). This means players will need to grow and tend to the crop all year and then collect a single yield of Wheat, which they can then use to start making Flour. Those who are confused on how to get their crops going can use the Manor Lords Farming Guide here to get started.
The process to collect Flour for Bread in Manor Lords looks like this:
- Build A Farmhouse - Players first need to construct a Farmhouse and add workers/families to it to help tend to any fields they create. It takes 3 x Timber to build the Farmhouse.
- Create Fields - Once players have a Farmhouse, they need to create fields. Once created, these fields can be accessed and changed to produce Wheat via a drop-down menu.
- Wait For Wheat Harvest - Wheat must be grown and tended to for an entire year before it is harvested. Wheat will only be harvested during September, October, and November. Because of this, players will want to ensure they have their fields ready to go, and applicable workers ready to tend to them, before September (as these workers will start ensuring the crop grows for the remaining months).
- Wait For Grain To Be Threshed From Wheat - Once players collect Wheat, it will need to be turned into Grain. This is done automatically in the Farmhouse, but it is important to note that workers inside the Farmhouse will not thresh the Grain from the Wheat unless all of the other crops have been tended to and brought in from the fields to Storage.
- Build A Windmill - Once players have their Grain (or before if they're preparing), they will need to build a Windmill. Building one is as easy as picking a spot for it and placing it. It will take 4 x Timber to create. Because workers will be transporting the Grain from the Farmhouse to the Windmill to turn it into Flour, it's recommended to place the Windmill somewhere near the Farmhouse and Fields for easy access.
- Wait For Grain To Be Made Into Flour - Once the Grain arrives at the Windmill, it will be turned into Flour as long as a player has at least one worker assigned to the Windmill itself.
Manor Lords: How to Get More Oxen
Oxen are important in Manor Lords, mainly for transporting the timbers around the settlement. Here is how to get more of them in the game.
How To Use Flour To Make Bread In Manor Lords
Once players have Flour, they'll need to turn it into Bread to provide food for their population. To do so, players need access to an Oven. There are two ways to create ovens in Manor Lords. The first way is to build something called a Communal Oven. This structure takes 2 x Timber to produce and will require at least one worker to operate. Once players have a Communal Oven, they will be able to turn their Flour into Bread.
Although the Communal Oven is the fastest and easiest way to create a spot to make bread, players can also craft Ovens within their Burgage Plots by utilizing the Bakery Extension. This upgrade is a little more difficult to obtain as it first requires players to upgrade a Burgage Plot to Level 2. They will then need to spend 5 x Regional Wealth, as well as 5 x Planks to build the extension on the Burgage Plot. Though this process takes a bit longer, it can be an easier way to build multiple ovens and produce more Bread (and open more Market Stalls) as a product, without having to expend more workers.
