The principal designer for Magic: The Gathering has expressed interest in a crossover with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Magic: The Gathering has released plenty of sets based on existing franchises, which has led to fans hoping for their own favorites to get the same treatment.
Magic: The Gathering has been on a roll with crossovers in recent history. The card game has recently released or announced MTG sets based on Final Fantasy, Marvel, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and PlayStation games among others, with no sign of slowing down.

Magic: The Gathering x Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
In a recent chat with Dexerto, Magic: The Gathering principal designer Gavin Verhey sat down to talk about the game, its recent successes, and the future. While Verhey isn't responsible for making all the decisions for the game, he was asked if he had any properties in mind for creating another Universes Beyond set, to which he responded Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. He pointed to the game's fame thus far and said it would be fun, but fans shouldn't hold their breath, as he also noted that he has no idea if the developers of the game would be interested in participating in a Magic: The Gathering crossover.
With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's high popularity and success, it's a likely contributor to his interest in collaboration. The game has been praised by players, critics, and industry professionals alike, and has set a new record for nominations at The Game Awards. However, he also noted that he thinks that games are simply good collaboration partners in general, as they draw in people that are already gamers who understand terminology like mana or hit points. The card game will also be seeing another set released based on an RPG before 2025 comes to an end, with Final Fantasy holiday boxes launching on December 5. As Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was partially inspired by Final Fantasy, it would be interesting to see the games collide through Magic: The Gathering.
If a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 collaboration happens, there may be a long time to wait. Magic: The Gathering has already laid out some of its plans for 2026, and of those revealed, it's primarily focusing on non-gaming media properties, like Marvel, The Hobbit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Star Trek. While it's ultimately up to Wizards of the Coast, Sandfall Interactive, and Kepler Interactive whether Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will get the same tabletop treatment, fans of both franchises may want to express their interest on social media to show there's an eager market for it.
