Magic: The Gathering is enjoying a lot of success lately, with each set since Tarkir: Dragonstorm in April 2025 being not only great from a financial standpoint, but also being praised by fans for its new cards, mechanics, and products. Less than a week ago, Wizards of the Coast finally released Magic: The Gathering's Edge of Eternities set, and despite initial worries among some fans that it wouldn't be a "true Magic set" due to its space setting, it is doing very well in sales and reception alike. Now, the next release will be the Spider-Man set on September 26, and while not all cards have been revealed so far, there is already a clear combo between this set and Edge of Eternities.
Though some decks are more straightforward than others, most Magic: The Gathering decks will have some combos baked into them. This is true for all formats, and it can be all the more important in Commander since one can't rely on multiple copies of each card, so every spell should matter. Yet, since Edge of Eternities and Spider-Man are back-to-back releases, it's interesting to note that there's already a powerful combo between the two because it can be played in all formats, and it mainly involves 2 cards: Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer, and Dawnsire, Sunstar Dreadnought.
Magic: The Gathering Suddenly Has Two Big FOMO Cards After Edge of Eternities' Commander Deck Lists
Magic: The Gathering's new Commander decks for Edge of Eternities are making two cards much harder to get due to a massive price increase.
Spider-Man's Anti-Venom Card Already Has an OP Magic: The Gathering Combo
The Spider-Man set is not even out yet, but many players are already theorycrafting decks dedicated to the various heroes, such as the Spider-Man 2099 cards in MTG. For those interested in the new mono-White card that is Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer, there are many combos for various formats, such as:
- Anti-Venom + Pariah / Pariah's Shield (Commander)
- Anti-Venom + Spectacular Spider-Man (Limited and all other formats)
- Anti-Venom + Overlord of the Mistmoors (Standard)
Yet, one of the most fun and interesting combos to be pulled with Anti-Venom is with Dawnsire from Edge of Eternities. Dawnsire has two station threshold abilities to be procced with 10+ or 20+ charge counters, respectively, with the first allowing players to deal 100 damage to a creature or Planeswalker when attacking, which could instantly make Anti-Venom a 105/105 creature. This is because Anti-Venom prevents all damage dealt to it and turns it into an equal number of +1/+1 counters, so a single activation of Dawnsire brings Anti-Venom to 105 power and toughness, assuming it didn't take damage beforehand.
This is a nasty combo that can be pulled on turn six with no ramp, and sooner than that with mana rocks or other tools that accelerate mana generation. Considering that dealing 100+ damage is usually enough to defeat any opponent in any format, barring some instances of life-gain decks, having a Standard-legal way to make Anti-Venom a 105/105 is quite interesting. Even then, this card also has a reanimate ability upon entering the battlefield, so it can combo further with other cards. Interestingly, though, the two-card combo of Anti-Venom + Dawnsire can grow bigger within the new Spider-Man set itself and with more Edge of Eternities cards in MTG.
Players can use the Anti-Venom + Dawnsire combo with Edge of Eternities' The Eternity Elevator, which is one of the new spacecraft cards in Magic: The Gathering. Like Dawnsire, it also has station with a threshold of 20+. Normally, it costs 5 mana and can be tapped to generate 3 colorless mana, but when its threshold is achieved, players can tap The Eternity Elevator to add mana of any color for each charge counter on it, meaning at least 20. Players can use Dawnsire's ability on Anti-Venom, make it a 105/105 creature, and then tap it to generate 105 charge counters for The Eternity Elevator, which can then be tapped to generate 105 mana.
Alternatively, once Anti-Venom is a creature with over 100 power and toughness thanks to Dawnside, players can use Spectacular's Spider-Man ability to make creatures under their control indestructible and hexproof until the end of the turn, basically making it impossible for Anti-Venom to be removed. This is available in MTG's Spider-Man set launching next month.
