I Think Smile Star Sosie Bacon's Next Horror Movie Could Be The Best Evil Doll Film
Sosie Bacon impressed me when she played a traumatized character in the 2022 horror film Smile, and I'm curious about her next movie.
Blumhouse's M3GAN Is Rising On Netflix's Global Top 10 Charts Before M3GAN 2 Hits Theaters Soon
The Blumhouse hit horror movie M3GAN is currently sitting at number four on Netflix's Global Top 10 movie chart. According to Netflix's Tudum, Tyler Perry's thriller Straw is at the number one spot, followed by Now You See Me at number two. The chart also currently features older releases, such as Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie, along with the recent Netflix comedy Nonnas.
M3GAN's placement on the chart is likely thanks to the upcoming sequel M3GAN 2.0, which features the return of the unsettling and fashionable doll, who is voiced by Amie Donald. M3GAN 2.0 will be in theaters on June 27th, 2025 and brings back original characters Cady (Violet McGraw) and her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams), who are still dealing with the aftermath of the doll's killing spree. M3GAN stands out among the most unnerving horror movie dolls since she talks and moves and acts like a human. The ending of the first movie suggested that the story could continue, as in typical horror movie fashion, audiences were sure that the doll would live to see another day.

- Puss In Boots
- The Wild Robot
This time around, M3GAN isn't the only scary doll in town. The sequel also follows a robot named AMELIA, and it looks like M3GAN and Amelia will battle each other. Other cast members include Jemaine Clement, Timm Sharp, Jen Van Epps, Brian Jordan Alvarez, and Ivanna Sakhno, who is the voice of Amelia.
M3GAN was released in January 2023 and the campy, fun film has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The story may have a silly tone at times, but the doll is genuinely scary. The original movie got a lot of buzz when it was released, so it made sense that the sequel would be greenlit. Akela Cooper wrote the first film from a story she worked on with notable horror producer James Wan, and M3GAN's director Gerald Johnstone wrote and directed the sequel. M3GAN's many humorous moments blended perfectly with typical horror elements, from jump scares to the trope of a precocious child character who helps save the day.
According to Variety, Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum was such a big fan of M3GAN that he said he hoped there would be a sequel prior to the movie's theatrical run. He said, "We broke our cardinal rule." Now Blumhouse has several horror sequels in the pipeline. Besides developing new stories about the Grabber and Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, the company is making Ma 2, a sequel to the 2019 movie starring Octavia Spencer.
As long as M3GAN 2.0 is as successful as the first film, it seems possible to continue the franchise and tell more creepy tales about the killer doll.
