While not as visually unique as the various boss ghosts in previous entries, the Possessor ghost class in Luigi's Mansion 2 and its remake still pose quite a challenge and offer distinct boss designs. Since Possessors, obviously, possess living things or inanimate objects, the variety of different boss forms and fights is engaging each time.

With such unique styles for Possessor boss fights, the five boss battles stand apart from each other. Each one incorporates different techniques based on what their given mansion has utilized for puzzles. As each boss fight is unique, it's simple to decide which is more difficult than the rest. From the easiest for Luigi to take down to the most tedious, the Possessors fall into line.

5 The Grouchy Possessor

The Cellar's Spider Queen

Luigi's Mansion 2 Spider Boss
  • Location: Gloomy Manor
  • Mission: Confront the Source

The first Possessor boss battle, found within the cellar of Gloomy Manor, takes the form of a giant spider queen, which is also the source of the numerous spiders and cobwebs found all over the mansion. As the first boss fight in the game, it's meant to be the easiest boss ghost for Luigi to take down, and it achieves that goal.

Dodging the strange purple slimes and red spiders throughout the fight can be tricky. However, the overall puzzle mechanic is easy to grasp: players must set the giant web on fire. Except for players with arachnophobia, the Grouchy Possessor is nothing to fear.

4 The Harsh Possessor

Fighting The Endless Staircase

Luigi's Mansion 2 Stair Boss
  • Location: Haunted Towers
  • Mission: Tree Topping

As a surprise twist against the heavy plant theming of Haunted Towers, the Possessor of this botanical mansion is just a haunted wooden staircase. It sits at the top of the massive tree at the center of this location. Preceding it is the somewhat grueling puzzle of climbing what feels like an endless staircase, where practically impossible memorization is key. After completing this hurdle, fighting a possessed staircase offers some perfect catharsis.

The staircase fight isn't necessarily harder than the Gloomy Manor's spider queen. However, the much smaller arena does spike the difficulty a bit, especially with the Possessor's constant lunging and jumping. The Harsh Possessor may not be as intense as its name suggests, but the fight still require Luigi to be careful and smart.

3 The Tough Possessor

A Knight To Remember

Luigi's Mansion 2 Knight Boss
  • Location: Paranormal Dimension
  • Mission: Stop the Knightmare

The Tough Possessor is the final Possessor that Luigi must face in the game before taking on the true final boss, King Boo. Yet despite that, it isn't that tough of a fight. The multiple, fast suits of armor can indeed pose a threat to players who don't figure out the rug puzzle quickly enough. But still, it isn't too much trouble once the rug-pulling becomes obvious.

The giant knight towards the end of the fight definitely raises the stakes and adds a great visual for Luigi to fight against. Still, this fight doesn't require much more thought beyond the general rug-pulling concept. While the stage changes a bit to incorporate new hazards with the titanic knight, there isn't much else that's challenging about this final fight.

2 The Overset Possessor

Facing The Hands Of Time

Luigi's Mansion 2 Clock Boss
  • Location: Old Clockworks
  • Mission: Showtime

Initially, this might seem like an odd concept for a boss in Luigi's ghost-hunting adventure. The Overset Possessor takes control of the massive clock atop the Old Clockworks, turning the boss fight into a gauntlet featuring plenty of ghosts as the clock hands tick away. For players that haven't mastered the jump while sucking up ghosts, or get caught up in the hoards of ghosts attacking Luigi, this fight can easily become overwhelming.

Players must face various ghosts and enemies swarming the small arena every time the clock strikes the hour. What's more, the environment is just as treacherous. The moving clock hands present a constant obstacle for Luigi to dodge, making the arena feel even more closed in. The Overset Possessor may only be the third boss in the game, but it's one of the toughest in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.

1 The Shrewd Possessor

Attacking The Secret Mine

Luigi's Mansion 2 Ice Boss
  • Location: Secret Mine
  • Mission: Chilly Ride

Easily the most difficult Possessor fight in the game, the Shrewd Possessor is found at the very bottom of the Secret Mine. There, this boss offers a challenge and a puzzle players cannot really prepare for. Unlike the other fights, Luigi is stuck using a bomb cannon sled. The only way to weaken the possessed glacier is to throw bombs at thinner ice sheets on the Possessor's face, and eventually force it to inhale a bomb. This fight hovers on the line between difficulty and tedium.

While launching the bombs initially seems easy, players will soon realize the need to correctly time, angle, and bounce the bombs. If the player takes too long on a given stage of this fight, the ice sheets will completely regenerate, further extending the battle. Only players who can quickly adapt to the requirements of the Shrewd Possessor's fight will manage a gold, three-star rating, leaving others far in the frozen dust.
