Summary

  • Love, Death + Robots Season 4 received a rare 100% Tomatometer from critics.
  • Audience score is at 40% with criticism for lacking originality.
  • Show features talented voice actors like John Boyega and Ed Skrein.

Netflix's animated anthology series, Love, Death + Robots, has finally made its anticipated return to the streaming giant. Showcasing 10 strange and wild animated episodes from the creative minds of Tim Miller and David Fincher, it seems as though not everyone is in agreement when it comes to how good the sci-fi anthology series is, leaving volume 4 receiving a huge gap between critics' and audiences' scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

Masterminded by Tim Miller and co-executive produced by David Fincher, Love, Death + Robots' previous seasons have won a host of prestigious awards, which include 13 Emmy Awards and another for Outstanding Short Form Animated Program. Most notably, Season 3’s Jibaro episode became a beloved favorite with fans due to its stunning animation, unique artistic style, and underlying metaphor of toxic relationships. This time around, season 4 features a devil and a cat at war, cyborg fighters, alien invasions, and US soldiers who awaken an ancient evil - and also a rather strange Red Hot Chili Peppers episode - but while some argue that the series has made a tremendous return to Netflix, others feel like volume 4 hasn't lived up to the show's usual creative greatness.

Love, Death + Robots Season 4’s Review Scores Are Wildly Divided

Love, Death + Robots Directors Discuss the Anthology Series’ Evolution Until Vol. 4

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the scores are in for Love, Death + Robots season 4, and while some praise the show's "spectacular combination of intriguing stories and wonderful animation," others don't quite feel the same way, stating that volume 4 struggled to recapture the magic its previous seasons brought. Even though season 4 has a rare 100% Tomatometer from critics' 12 reviews, the show's audience score currently only stands at 40% with over 100 ratings. Most of what critics seemed to love about the show's return in season 4 has been its rich palette of animation styles and stunning creativity, but even among the positivity, some did touch on how the series wasn't as bold as it was before, indicating a possible creative burnout.

When it comes to Love, Death + Robots audience, the main gripe about season 4 seems to be how it "lacked originality" this time around, calling some of the episodes "uninspiring" or "boring", particularly its first episode titled "Can't Stop", which seemed to be some kind of filler for the series and more like a Red Hot Chili Peppers promotional advert than anything. While the percentage of positive reviews differed among the show's loyal fanbase, the consensus is that Love, Death + Robot's season 4 episodes didn't match the same uniqueness and pizzazz as its previous seasons did.

Aside from season 4's divided opinion, Love, Death + Robots hosts a fantastic lineup of talented voice actors that includes John Boyega, Ed Skrein, Sienna King, Rahul Kohli, John Oliver, MrBeast, and more. Love, Death + Robots Season 4 is available to stream right now via Netflix.
