Lost Castle 2 is one of the most underrated indie roguelikes out there and easily one of the best couch co-op games you can grab for just $13. But as with any game purchase, many players wonder how long it takes to beat Lost Castle 2. They want to be sure their investment is worthwhile and that they won't end up with a short, unpolished experience. To help with that, we've previewed Lost Castle 2, completed the campaign multiple times, and created this guide to give you all the details on its campaign length.
Lost Castle 2: Weapon Tier List
With over 200 weapons, Lost Castle 2 makes it challenging for you to pick the best equipment, so here’s a tier list to help you out.
How Long Is the Campaign in Lost Castle 2?
|
Play Style |
How Long to Beat |
|---|---|
|
Fast |
45 min. To 1 hour |
|
Casual |
2 to 3 hours |
|
Completionist |
4 to 7 hours |
Each adventure in Lost Castle 2 takes between 45 minutes and two hours to complete, depending on RNG and path choices. If you stick to the main areas and boss fights, you can finish in under an hour.
In my latest run, I beat the final boss in 45 minutes, but I'm sure it could be done even faster. On the other hand, if I played like a completionist, it could easily take over two hours to finish the adventure.
It's also important to note that your build in Lost Castle 2 and the random items you collect can greatly impact how quickly you clear areas. If you're lucky enough to gather your build's essential weapons and treasures, you're likely to finish the game much faster.
Lost Castle 2's Replayability
Lost Castle 2 is built for replayability. The core roguelike gameplay loop encourages you to keep diving into the dungeons and clearing them repeatedly until everything in your camp is maxed out. So, the value of the game goes far beyond the 1-2 hours it takes to beat it for the first time. You can easily invest over 30 hours, especially if you're playing with friends, and still uncover new experiences.

How Long Will It Take to 100% the Game?
Playing Lost Castle 2 in a completionist style will stretch the campaign to around four hours. However, if you aim to 100% the game and unlock all 28 achievements, you'll likely need to invest between five and seven hours.
What Should You Do After Beating Lost Castle 2?
After beating Lost Castle 2's final boss for the first time, you unlock the Ethereal Nightmare difficulty. This hardcore mode ramps up the campaign's difficulty for a chance to earn better rewards.
The Ethereal Nightmare is designed to boost replayability. If you're done with your first playthrough, I highly recommend giving this mode a try. It may take some time to get used to its increased difficulty, but once you do, you'll see the Ethereal Nightmare as Lost Castle 2's version of New Game Plus.
Is Lost Castle 2 Shorter Than Lost Castle 1?
Currently, Lost Castle 2's campaign is shorter than its predecessor, Lost Castle 1. However, it's important to remember that Lost Castle 2 is still in early access. If you check the development roadmap, you'll see that the devs plan to release more content throughout 2025. So, it's too soon to call Lost Castle 1 the winner in terms of content and campaign length. We'll need to wait for the second installment's full release to make that determination.
For reference, How Long to Beat's data shows that Lost Castle 1 took an average of 14 hours to complete. Compared to Lost Castle 2's current state, that's about 78% longer. But again, it's better not to compare the two just yet, as one of them is still in development.
Lost Castle 2 has been actively releasing major updates, with the latest patch arriving in January 2025. Each update typically adds a new area and a couple of fresh bosses, which can definitely extend the playtime.
