Lost Ark is slowly releasing challenging content for players who have reached the end-game. The first of those to be released is a multi-phase instanced encounter known as a Legion Raid. The bosses in this raid will surely put players' skills to the test as they try to defeat it.
The Valtan Legion Raid marks the beginning of what many Lost Ark players believe to be the best content that the end-game has to offer. It is also some of the most challenging content released. Parties with players who aim to clear this Legion Raid with as few headaches as possible will surely want to know a few tips to ease their struggles. Here are some of our top tips to make your experience a bit easier.
8 Purple Wolf Attacks Are Mostly Frontal
The first phase of the Legion raid has players facing a wolf that splits in two. At the beginning of the encounter, between 50 and 45 HP bars, players take on only one Boss, the Purple Wolf. The majority of his attacks are frontal so the safest place to be are either at a distance or at his rear flanks. However, there are 3 attacks that players should look out for, they are:
- Jump to 360-Swipe, briefly after this attack there will be an explosion in a ring around the boss leaving a safe zone near him or very far away.
- Tornado with 3 waves of 4 projectile Shurikens that shoot outward in a pattern that alternates between a "+" and "x". This attack is also present in other Phases too.
- Pools that spawn under players and explode shortly after. This attack is also present in other Phases too.
7 Know When To Use Panacea
It is suggested to equip the consumable Battle Item, Panacea, on your quick slot bar before the raid. It will clear many harmful debuffs in this fight. It can be used to reduce damage taken by you and the raid, and also to avoid certain mechanics to allow you to spend more time damaging the boss. Here are the three best times to use it:
- In Phase 1, during the Red Wolf Phase, between 45 and 30 HP bars, the boss applies a bleeding debuff that damages players over time. This debuff can stack up to 3 times, and upon the 3rd application, an Area of Effect attack will occur, dealing a lot of damage to anyone struck by it.
- In Phase 2, Valtan spawns 4 blue orbs at the edge of the arena in each cardinal direction with red telegraphs of concentric rings around them. Once a player touches these orbs they will have a debuff which increases their damage taken.
- Also in Phase 2, Valtan has an attack that can be countered, and when successfully countered it silences that player. Normally players need to run away from the group as the debuff can spread to nearby players.
6 Aiming Sidereal Power Thirain To Deal Double Damage
When the Wolf Boss splits and there are two bosses, a Blue wolf, and a Red wolf, it's possible to speed up this phase with the use of the Sidereal Power from Thirain. See, Thirian attacks in a directional line. Depending on how the bosses are placed and where the raid leader is in relation to the bosses when they use it, it's possible to damage both bosses.
.
Using skills that taunt can be helpful in lining the bosses up to make it easier to aim Thirain's attack. Some taunting skills are the Gunlancer skill "Shout of Hatred", and the Berserker Skill "Endure Pain" with the Taunt Tripod, you can even use a Taunting Scarecrow Battle Item if your raid doesn't have either of these classes
5 Splendid Panacea Negates Orb Mechanic
The Battle Item, Splendid Panacea is the upgraded version of Panacea. It also provides immunity from debuffs for 2 seconds. This can be very useful for the Blue and Red Orb mechanic that occurs at 30 and 15 HP Bars. Normally, players will touch 1 orb each in a specific order to avoid taking a debuff. If they come in contact with another orb while they have the debuff, they are killed instantly.
If a player uses a Splendid Panacea just before the orbs reach them they can absorb the orbs without any penalty. Therefore, a simple strategy for this mechanic is for 1 player to stand at the boss, while the other players stand far away. The player who collects the orbs uses a Splendid Panacea just before they collect all the orbs. Once the orbs have been collected, everyone can safely Stagger the boss, remember to use the Sidereal: Wei for even more stagger!
4 Avoiding The Fear Mechanic
In the final phase of the Wolf Boss, below 30 HP bars, the boss will combine again into the singular Purple Wolf form. Roughly every 2 minutes they will cast fear on one player, typically the furthest player from the boss, and they will be the target of a devastating attack.
If you pay close attention to the Purple Stagger bar under the Bosses HP bar it will flash, disappear, and a small lock symbol will replace it. This is your cue to either cast your Awakening Skill or a well-timed Spacebar Dash to avoid it. Both of these abilities provide a moment of immunity to crowd control effects such as this mechanic.
3 Gathering Blue Orbs Increases The Sidereal Bar
During Phase 2, when you finally encounter Valtan himself, players must break the pillars surrounding the arena to safely avoid AoE mechanics. There is a typical pattern players use to break the walls and pillars of the arena, starting from the 3 o'clock position and rotating around counter-clockwise. When he breaks the pillars containing blue orbs, they fall. Players who touch these orbs gain a buff that prevents death for a later mechanic.
Less experienced groups will use the Sidereal Power of Balthorr as it can be difficult to ensure each player only touches one orb. If everyone can safely complete this mechanic then you can use the Sidereal Power ofThirain instead, to do more damage, thus speeding up the fight.
2 Time Stop Potion To Avoid Big Damage
There are a number of moments during the second phase of the Valtan that using a Time Stop Potion can come in handy. While it won't prevent raid-wipe or one-shot mechanics it can help if you find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- Early in Phase 2 of Valtan, there are a series of lightning strikes followed by a large AoE that fills the room except for the edges. If you happen to be struck multiple times by the lightning strikes and can't get to the edge of the arena, use Time Stop after the 4th hit to avoid getting hit by the AoE.
- If you are unable to get behind a rock during the "pie-slice" mechanic using a Time Stop Potion will prevent damage while in the yellow telegraphed zones.
- During the final transition at around 17-15 HP bars, Valtan pounds the ground with his fists causing cracks in the ground to appear and causing a lot of damage. Most groups will use the Sidereal Power of Balthorr to protect from damage. However, if you still have Time Stop Potions at this phase you can use them after the third ground punch giving you just enough time to avoid all the damage that would ensue.
1 Play It Safe During The Final Phase
Around 17-15 HP bars remaining, Valtan will die and turn into a spectral version of himself. There are only a few additional attack patterns here and require very quick timing in order to execute properly. Due to the size of the arena, if you are hit by any attack there is a high chance of being knocked off the arena. Now is the time to really focus on the boss' attacks to make sure you stay alive as long as possible.
There are 2 significant mechanics to watch out for:
- A frontal cone Red telegraph that stuns players followed up by a frontal yellow telegraph that knocks back. Getting hit by the first attack will cause certain death from the second.
- Additional enemies spawn on the outer edge and need to be countered very quickly.
