The Umbral realm in Lords of the Fallen is more than just a gimmick. It comes with its own set of pathways, encounters, and rules that make it feel like its own dimension. Staying in this realm for too long increases all Vigor gained from defeating enemies, but it also incurs the wrath of vicious grim reapers that will ruthlessly hunt down trespassers.

Lords of the Fallen’s Deluxe Edition Gives Players a Unique Early Advantage

Lords of the Fallen features a diverse catalog of starting class builds that is emboldened further if players purchase the deluxe edition.

Reapers in Lords of the Fallen are extremely tenacious and lethal. The best course of action to take when one appears is to run, though the bravest of Dark Crusaders may have things to gain if they choose to stand their ground.

Can You Kill Red Reapers in Lords of the Fallen?

Yes, though with great difficulty. Red reapers (officially referred to as Scarlet Shadows) have very high health pools and deal massive damage with their attacks. To make matters worse, the players' Sanguinatrix becomes disabled when a reaper is on the hunt, making effective healing almost impossible for the majority of players.

Killing a reaper isn't impossible. In fact, players don't even need good equipment or a helping hand in order to take one down. The best way to kill red reapers is to Soulflay them into a chasm. Doing so will kill them instantly. This is easier said than done, however, as reapers are very aggressive and tend to sink into the ground.

The timing on Soulflay can be hard to get at first, as it takes a couple of seconds for the Umbral Lamp to latch onto a target. When attempting to Soulflay a reaper, wait for it to do one of its big moves or long attack chains. Dodge or sprint away, then use that opportunity to launch Soulflay. This strategy is best performed in an area with plenty of long drops, like Pilgrim's Perch and Revelation Depths.

A pack of Umbral Scourings in Lords of the Fallen
Lords of the Fallen Umbral Scouring drop

Defeating a Scarlet Shadow rewards players with a few thousand Vigor and five Umbral Scourings, making them a renewable source of the latter. Umbral Scourings are normally obtained by Soulflaying memories in the Umbral realm, and each memory only gives two Scourings. Reapers drop five Umbral Scourings every time one is killed. A new reaper spawns every five or so minutes.

This grim reaper cheese strategy is best done in the platforms outside the Vestige of Blind Agatha in the Pilgrim's Perch Bellroom, past the Ardent Penitent. Players can lure reapers to the edge of the platform by navigating the spine bridge and the wooden beams to the right of the Vestige tunnel's exit.

Lords of the Fallen is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
