Lords of the Fallen 2 will be fully unveiled at the upcoming Gamescom Opening Night Live, publisher CI Games has confirmed. The sequel to 2023's Lords of the Fallen has garnered quite a bit of anticipation since it was revealed last year, and it may well be one of the most talked-about reveals of Gamescom 2025.
The original Lords of the Fallen launched in 2014, drawing immediate comparisons to FromSoftware's beloved Dark Souls series but managing to carve out its own following. A sequel was announced years later, but the project went through numerous developmental shifts before being soft-rebooted as Lords of the Fallen in 2023, which is set over a thousand years after the events of the original. 2023's Lords of the Fallen was well-received and has surpassed 5.5 million players as of July 2025.
Lords of the Fallen Has Hit 5.5 Million Players and Still Isn't Profitable
Despite building a massive audience since launch, CI Games' Lords of the Fallen struggles to be profitable for some strange reason.
Lords of the Fallen 2 Will Finally Break Cover Next Week
The game's PS5 version in particular enjoyed renewed attention earlier this year thanks to the substantial Lords of the Fallen 2.0 patch that substantially improved gameplay and performance. Now, CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski recently announced on Twitter that Lords of the Fallen 2's full reveal is slated for Gamescom Opening Night Live, which is slated to take place on Tuesday, August 19 at 2pm ET / 11am PT. When Lords of the Fallen 2 was first announced in 2024, CI Games confirmed a "strong marketing campaign" for the game in 2025, with the internal goal of broadening the franchise's appeal through more commercially-minded visual design.
Lords of the Fallen 2 - technically the third game in the series - is being positioned as a bigger, more accessible follow-up to prior entries. CI Games and developer Hexworks have confirmed that Lords of the Fallen 2 will be built in Unreal Engine 5 and are currently targeting a 2026 release. Hexworks plans to introduce additional game modes, refine gameplay systems, and offer a full shared-progression system in co-op alongside the main single-player campaign in Lords of the Fallen 2. Though the game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Lords of the Fallen 2 will be exclusive to Epic Games Store at launch, skipping the ubiquitous storefront Steam.
CI Games' decision to skip Steam for Lords of the Fallen 2's launch has incited some outrage among fans, who pointed towards games like Alan Wake 2 that took similar exclusivity deals and struggled to pick up steam on PC. Hopefully, CI Games intends to bring Lords of the Fallen 2 to Steam not long after release, and the long-awaited soulslike game will receive a formal launch date at Gamescom 2025.
