Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 was home to the official reveal of Lords of the Fallen 2, the follow-up to the 2023 Soulslike from CI Games. Whereas the 2023 entry rebooted the original game from 2014, Lords of the Fallen 2 is taking the story forward and seems to be continuing the dual-realm world design that defined its predecessor.
Following the craze of FromSoftware's Elden Ring over a year prior, the Lords of the Fallen reboot was released at a time when fanfare for Soulslikes was at an all-time high. After launch, CI Games continued to roll out updates and bring improvements to Lords of the Fallen, and now the team to announce a full-blown sequel not even two years later.
Lords of the Fallen 2 is Coming in 2026
During Geoff Keighley's live stage presentation of Gamescom Opening Night Live, CI Games showed up to unveil a cinematic reveal trailer for Lords of the Fallen 2. The nearly two-minute action-packed trailer showcases the dark and gritty world Lords of the Fallen is set in, as well as some visceral gore that the series has so far been known for. At the end of the trailer, CI Games stamped the sequel with a 2026 release window and let gamers know that the title will become available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC when it launches.
It seems like 2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for Soulslikes, as, aside from Lords of the Fallen 2, several other major Souls games are looking to drop next year. Cold Symmetry and Playstack's sequel to 2020's Mortal Shell was announced with a brutally violent and incredibly good-looking trailer during Summer Game Fest in June and is looking to release sometime in 2026. Additionally, FromSoftware has The Duskbloods, a Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive, Bloodborne-inspired new IP that focuses on online multiplayer, also aiming for next year. Just like in 2023, Lords of the Fallen 2 will also have some serious Souslike competition next year, though, with this initial reveal trailer in mind, it'll be interesting to see whether it has what it takes to make its mark alongside Mortal Shell 2 and The Duskbloods.
Since this is merely Lords of the Fallen 2's first-ever cinematic unveiling, it may be several months before CI Games is ready to share more. However, since it already has a 2026 window, it wouldn't be out of the question to expect another trailer, perhaps a gameplay reveal, at The Game Awards in December.
