Coal is an essential resource in the newest survival-crafting RPG, Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. Not only is it an important crafting material, but coal is also required to power crucial stations like forges, furnaces, and hearths – all of which are important for a well-rounded base camp. Without them, players wouldn’t be able to cook meals or craft weapons and tools to help them throughout their journey in the depths of Moria.

Players can find a few pieces of coal in their first camp in Moria to get started. But as they progress through the game, they’ll need to quickly find more coal. Read on to learn how to get coal in Return to Moria.

How to Get Coal in Return to Moria

mining coal veins return to moria

There are two different ways for players to get coal in Return to Moria.

Mining Coal Veins

Mining Coal Veins is the most efficient way for players to get coal. Coal veins can be found naturally embedded in the walls within the mines of Moria. As players explore the mines, they can easily spot coal veins since these are black with orange edges.

Using a simple pickaxe, players can mine these veins. Each coal vein yields several coal chunks, which can be used for fuel, smelting, and crafting. However, once a coal vein is depleted, it may not come back, so players will have to go deeper into the mines in search of coal.

Crafting from Wood Scraps

An alternate method for obtaining coal is by crafting it from wood scraps. While it may be quite expensive, this is the easiest way to get coal if players can not find more coal veins. To craft coal, players need access to a Stone Hearth and require 25 wooden scraps. Wood scraps are pretty easy to find since they’re scattered throughout Moria. Players can also get wood scraps by breaking barrels or other wooden objects they come across.

Once they have enough wood scraps, players can simply put them into the Stone Hearth. It takes about 10 seconds for the wood scraps to be processed into coal.

That said, mining is still a more efficient and reliable method of getting coal in Return to Moria. Players should focus on gathering coal early on to ensure they have a steady supply for smelting and crafting.
