The second season of the Disney Plus Marvel Studios series Loki is currently in production, and it looks as if the brand-new adventure for the emblematic anti-hero may have found a new nemesis. American actor Rafael Casal has been cast as a significant addition to the Disney Plus series, but details surrounding his characters sit behind closed doors.

Marvel Studios' Loki first premiered on the Disney Plus streaming platform in June of last year and starred Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Owen Wilson, Jonathan Majors, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The series centers around the notable God of Mischief and the chaotic string of adventures following the events of Avengers: Endgame. The series was received well by critics, earning a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but details surrounding the character's new venture remain unclear.

Hiddleston will be returning for the upcoming season, reprising his role as the titular anti-hero alongside Wilson, who will be portraying Mobius M. Mobius once again in the new adventure. Per Deadline, Casal will be joining the two leading stars, whose casting became somewhat apparent after a Loki season 2 set photo containing the actor leaked online. Casal's role in the new season is unclear, but speculation has surfaced indicating the actor could be playing Zaniac.

The potentially new villain is a demonic presence that takes possession of hosts and sends them on murderous killing sprees. Actor Brad Wolfe, whom Casal would portray, accepted a role to play a fictional version of Zaniac in a movie, but an on-set accident caused Wolfe to transform into the real Zaniac. As stated, news of the possible new villain in Loki season 2 is speculation, but more should begin to surface throughout the upcoming months as the filming for the brand-new season continues to progress.

Casal is known for his role as Miles in the 2018 film Blindspotting, which starred Daveed Diggs. The two actors co-wrote and produced the film, which received twenty-three award nominations across various festivals and award ceremonies. The two also co-created the Starz Blindspotting series, which is a spinoff to the film and stars Casal in a similar role. Casal's addition to Loki brings some lively energy to the cast, which hopefully will transfer into the events in the new season.

No timetable has been set for when audiences can expect to see the God of Mischief again, but wheels of production are moving in a positive direction. Casal's potential role in the upcoming season will soon become clear to audiences, but it'll be interesting to see how the addition of the new villain impacts plans for Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror.

Loki season 1 is now available on Disney Plus.
