THQ Nordic and the developer behind the first two entries in the Little Nightmares series, Tarsier Studios, have teased a brand-new horror game that will be revealed at Gamescom on August 20. THQ Nordic recently had its 2024 Digital Showcase, which highlighted a range of impressive titles in the works. Games showcased during THQ Nordic's event include a new Darksiders title, the Epic Mickey: Rebrushed remake, and gameplay footage of the highly anticipated Gothic remake . One of the more intriguing titles that was showcased was a brand-new title from Tarsier Studios, the original developer of the Little Nightmares games.
The first Little Nightmares game was released in 2017, developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, with a sequel being released in 2021. The success bolstered Bandai Namco to turn the series into an established IP, with a third game coming sometime in 2025. However, Little Nightmares 3 will not be developed by Tarsier Studios, due to its acquisition by the Embracer Group and the property being left in Bandai Namco's hands. Tarsier Studios is looking to put its experience from Little Nightmares into a new horror game, however.
The untitled game was revealed during the THQ Nordic 2024 Digital Showcase, complete with a teaser trailer. Minimal information about this game was revealed, with the teaser trailer focusing on the atmosphere. The trailer has an appropriately moody and foreboding tone, composed primarily of shadows and minimal light. The setting appears to be a barn, and one of the antagonists or enemies the player will have to face is a massive pig, who has its intestines falling out of its stomach. The pig then simply says "they're coming," before the trailer says that a proper worldwide reveal for the game will be at Gamescom 2024 on August 20.
Tarsier Studios and THQ Nordic Tease a New Horror Game For Gamescom 2024
Many horror game fanatics were intrigued by Tarsier Studio's upcoming title, as it carried the same vibe and dread of Little Nightmares. Fans of Little Nightmares 2 specifically were excited over the pig's appearance, as according to the official concept art book of the game, the pig was originally supposed to be in the starting forest area, but was scrapped. Many fans suspect this pig is the same one from that concept and that it is being retooled for this new title.
With regard to the current status of the Little Nightmares franchise, Little Nightmares 3 is being developed by Supermassive Games of Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures Anthology fame. Little Nightmares 3 was recently hit by a big delay, with the title now launching in 2025. Once Tarsier Studio's new game is fully revealed, it should make for an interesting comparison between it and the upcoming Little Nightmares 3.
