On August 2023, Little Nightmares 3 was announced and had been planned for a 2024 release. Sadly, it has been pushed back to around somewhere in 2025, but it's likely fans aren't too sad about it as it means more time for it to be fully developed, and also due to another big piece of news. Publisher THQ Nordiq also made an announcement trailer for its game Reanimal in August 2024, a project that, while it has no official release date, has a chance of being released within this year. The coming of two very similar titles could mean something good for the gaming industry and the people who enjoy the type of content both games bring.
Both Reanimal and Little Nightmares 3 are dark when it comes to their art style and narrative, and that's because of the genre they're categorized in. The two of them are horror platformers, and having them released side-by-side or at least close to one another could allow for a sudden desire for more titles like them. Granted that the two must be successful and highly praised for that to happen, it is still a possibility that one must consider them as they have the potential to do so.
22 Games To Play If You Liked Little Nightmares 2
Loads of gamers loved Little Nightmares 2. For those looking for a similar experience, these games should scratch that itch.
How Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal Could Start the Rise for More Horror Platformers
The chilling trailers for Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal show that the two have a quality that could pull fans, and even non-fans, of the genre into playing them. They could take the horror platformer genre by storm and start a new trend, but as for how, it will be likely due to things like:
- If both games contain great plots despite there being little to no dialogue
- Great utilization of environments to properly convey the horror aspect of both titles
- The creepy, grotesque, and intriguing designs of the monsters and enemies that players will have to face
- The usage of puzzles and escape sequences to create tension and a high level of engagement
Both Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal have a shot at being one of the best Horror Puzzle Platformers of all time, and both could brighten up the genre's future. Hopefully, they deliver in terms of quality and meet the fans' expectations, so more developers can see that there should be even more games like them.
Why Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal Should Revive and Revitalize the Horror Platformer Genre
While there are many amazing titles in the horror platformer genre, with good examples such as Limbo and Bramble: The Mountain King, it is not as popular as it should be. It is a shame that it isn't, as again, many games belong to it whose gameplay, art, and storytelling quality would be much appreciated by many of today's modern video game enthusiasts. And that's why Reanimal and Little Nightmares 3 must be big hits and make the genre popular, as it's a way of introducing people to what they have likely missed out on. Also, their success could result in grabbing the attention of more developers, as they can see it as an area of opportunity that has yet to be highly tapped into. Should that happen, it could result in more platformer horror games of great quality, and the genre could make new waves in the industry.
Even with Little Nightmares 3 being hit with a big delay and the uncertainty of the release of both it and Reanimal, there is high anticipation for both games. This proves that the two can make the horror platformer genre popular and should they be able to do so, there may be more to look forward to in the future.
