Little Nightmares 3 finally has a release date set in stone, adding to the ever-growing lineup of fall launches. Ever since the first game launched in 2017, the franchise has been defined by its special brand of horror. With a unique art style that blends a cute aesthetic with utterly grotesque imagery, Little Nightmares 3 comes back swinging with this combination.

The recent Little Nightmares 3 showcase offered fans a long-awaited update. After being delayed last year, developer Supermassive Games' progress on the project had been kept under wraps. Now, over a year later, Little Nightmares 3 is promising some thrilling and chilling settings that keep the essence of the franchise intact. A 10-minute gameplay demo of the game's Carnevale level offered a sneak peek at a bleak and hopeless-looking circus setting. Little Nightmares 3 may be right around the corner, but its competitor, Reanimal could also pop up at any time, and although the two embrace very similar tones, the latter's more hardcore lean into horror may help set itself apart.

Tarsier Studios Parting Ways With Little Nightmares Paved the Way for Reanimal

  • Reanimal is slated for a 2025 launch, but Tarsier Studios has yet to confirm an official release date.

Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares 2 were both developed by Tarsier Studios, but after the developer parted ways with Bandai Namco, the IP rights for the franchise remained with the publisher. However, this allowed Tarsier Studios to exercise its creative muscles and form a fresh series, which gave birth to Reanimal. Since it was created by Tarsier Studios, Reanimal naturally looks incredibly similar to the Little Nightmares franchise. This isn't surprising, since the developer coined Little Nightmares' specific art style, but it also sets Reanimal up as a title that will quickly be compared to the established franchise.

With both Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal being co-op horror adventures, that just makes comparison even more likely. The two titles boast bleak worlds, but when it comes to Reanimal, the emphasis on gore-filled monsters may be enough to give the game its own unique edge that will help squash comparisons.

Little Nightmares 3 launches on October 10.

Reanimal is Diving Deep Into Body Horror

Reanimal separates itself from Little Nightmares by taking a hard, gruesome turn into body horror. Even more disturbing is that many of the game's monsters appear to be animals that look like they have escaped from a mad scientist's lab. 2025 is bringing unique horror front and center, and Reanimal is gearing up to give gamers a story that is downright disgusting in the most eye-catching way.

Little Nightmares 3 has set itself apart with its level design and horrifying character designs, and while Reanimal's human-like enemies are incredibly similar, the animal-based creatures are truly something out of a nightmare. A giant sheep with multiple legs and a bipedal pig are just a few of the promised horrors awaiting players. These monsters take the character designs from the first and second Little Nightmares and kick it up to eleven.

Reanimal follows a brother and sister who are on a nightmarish journey to rescue their missing friends.

Little Nightmares 3 and Reanimal Could Go Head-to-Head

There are already other strong horror offerings, like Silent Hill f, slated for the fall in addition to Little Nightmares 3, but if Reanimal also gets scheduled for the upcoming spooky-filled season, it will be fascinating to see these two games launch around the same time. THQ Nordic recently announced a showcase slated for August 1, teasing that Reanimal will be present. This could finally be the stage that reveals a release date for Reanimal, and if so, the fall horror lineup could be even more thrilling.
