Summary

  • Little Nightmares 3 will appear during the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom 2024 with a new trailer.
  • While Tarsier Studios developed the first two games in the series, Supermassive Games is working on the third entry.
  • Supermassive is also slated to reveal more about Project 8020 during the event.

Supermassive Games' Little Nightmares 3 will have a presentation during the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom 2024. The world's largest gaming event is scheduled to kick off on August 20, and Little Nightmares 3 now joins the list of games scheduled to appear during the festivities, joining the ranks of heavy-hitters like Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Marvel Rivals.

The upcoming horror game, which will feature plenty of puzzle-solving and platforming, was first unveiled as part of last year's Opening Night Live showcase at Gamescom 2023. While the first two games in the series were developed by Tarsier Studios, Supermassive Games is developing Little Nightmares 3 after having previously released an upgraded version of the second game in the series, titled Little Nightmares 2: Enhanced Edition.

Geoff Keighley, who is set to host the 2024 Opening Night Live showcase, took to Twitter on August 16 to reveal that the third game in the Little Nightmares series would appear and that the presentation would include a new trailer for the game. The Opening Night Live event will stream worldwide on August 20, beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and 11 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. The new trailer could provide more insight into what the change in developer will mean for the series. While Supermassive is best recognized for horror titles with an emphasis on difficult choices, like The Quarry and Until Dawn, the studio has some platforming experience under its belt as well, getting its start by developing DLC for cutesy platformer LittleBigPlanet.

The game's inclusion in the livestream should encourage fans who have been waiting to hear more about the title, especially following an announcement in late May that Little Nightmares 3 had been hit with a delay. A statement from the Little Nightmares team at the time informed fans that the game's release was being pushed back to 2025. While the announcement didn't go into too much detail about the development process, it indicated that the team would require more time to get the game to the level of quality that fans would expect and to give the game "the care and love it deserved."

Little Nightmares 3 is unlikely to be Supermassive's only appearance at the Opening Night Live showcase. A teaser post from earlier in August suggested that the developer would have a Gamescom reveal for Project 8020, the first game planned for Season 2 of The Dark Pictures Anthology. Additionally, Supermassive is working on The Casting of Frank Stone, a narrative-based offshoot of asymmetrical survival horror game Dead by Daylight, which is slated to launch on September 3.

Two young friends, lost in a frightening world not made for children. If they cannot find a way out of this Nowhere place, they’ll be condemned to a fate worse than death.

FACE YOUR CHILDHOOD FEARS TOGETHER
You play as Low and Alone, best friends ever since they found each other in this lonely nightmare. They each possess their own iconic item: a bow for Low and a wrench for Alone. Working together, they’ve become adept at sneaking through hidden passages, hoisting each other over massive obstacles, and watching each other’s backs.

Whether you’re playing with a friend or an A.I. Companion, you’ll depend on each other's iconic items to create opportunities and to progress. The environment is full of clues and possibilities for imaginative children to exploit. Low’s arrows can reach high targets, cut through ropes, or down flying enemies, and Alone’s wrench is just the thing for crushing stunned enemies, smashing through barriers, or manipulating the workings of massive machines.

EMBARK ON AN IMMERSIVE AND DISTURBING ADVENTURE
No matter where you go, the Nowhere is home to horrific monsters. These Residents won't hesitate to go out of their way to capture any intrusive little Visitors that draw their attention. You might find yourself playing a terrifying game of hide and seek with Monster Baby in the sandy ruins of the Necropolis, struggling to avoid swarms of voracious Candy Weevils in an unsetlling Candy Factory, or dodging heavy feet while running along the rain-soaked promenade of a filthy funfair.

You'll need to be ready to run, hide, or even defend yourself at a moment's notice to stay in one piece.

SINK INTO THE SPIRAL
Don’t be too distracted by the desolate beauty of the Nowhere. There are dark mysteries waiting for you as Low and Alone follow their mirror path across the Spiral. As each new location will become more dangerous and disturbing than the last, traumatic flashes from the past will begin to emerge. Will Low and Alone finally escape from this unending nightmare? Only you can help them, little ones...
