Fans of the Little Nightmares franchise should be delighted to hear that a third installment is currently in development. Little Nightmares 3 was the first surprise announcement during Geoff Keighley's Gamescom Opening Night Live. The reveal trailer, while brief, came complete with an expected 2024 launch and two new protagonists.
While this puzzle platformer is set to come out three years after the sequel, there's plenty to look forward to. Little Nightmares 3 will also be the first game in the series to include online co-op in addition to its local multiplayer option. There are likely plenty of unrevealed elements, and some are hoping that one important customizable feature from earlier titles will be expanded upon.
Little Nightmares 3 Needs More Tailor-Made Options
The first Little Nightmares follows a little girl by the name of Six. It eventually becomes clear to players that the second game is actually a prequel, in terms of the story, that expands on the original. This title does well to show how Six originally combined forces with Mono, a boy who wears a paper bag over his face. Now, Little Nightmares 3 will debut two entirely new characters: Alone and Low. Already, a great deal of interest has been piqued by their unique appearances.
One of the playable characters, Alone, is confirmed to be a girl. Little Nightmares is continuing the trend of being one of the creepiest games on the market, considering Alone's disturbing appearance. In most cases, this black mask is typically worn by horses. Out the top of her head sticks two orange pigtails and in her hand, she can be seen wielding a silver wrench.
Her counterpart, Low, appears to be wearing a plague doctor mask, which consists of a curved beak and raven-like attributes. At different points in the trailer, the boy is seen with a white mask and a black mask. This suggests that different selections of attire could be available for the characters.
Both of the existing games have customizable features in the way of rotating headgear choices. Masks in Little Nightmares can be acquired by either purchasing them or solving puzzles. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of hats and masks available, and some were exclusive to specific consoles.
Little Nightmares 3 could benefit from creating more designs for individual expression, which could go so far as full-body outfits for both protagonists. The franchise has grown extremely popular for its story and multiplayer. Similar to It Takes Two and Unravel, friends and people in relationships have consistently flocked to the horror game to cooperate and beat the levels. It could be very appealing for a certain side of the player base to have matching outfits or complimentary ones.
Regardless of whether the two can wear similar clothes, there is no reason not to include more designs in general. Six was usually portrayed in her classic yellow raincoat, but it could be interesting to see different outfits for Alone and Low. Whether Little Nightmares 3 will actually include more customization options is still to be determined, and since there hasn't been an official launch day confirmed for 2024, it could very well be coming in Q3 or Q4. Hopefully, that will be enough time to usher this feature into the game.
Little Nightmares 3 launches in 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
