Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii players don't need to buy anything beyond the base game to acquire it, but there are some steps they'll need to follow before the end of February if they want it.
The Like a Dragon franchise, formerly Yakuza, has picked up plenty of new interested fans as of late due to a combination of game sales, the Yakuza Kiwami Nintendo Switch port, and the recent Amazon TV series. The next major entry to the series will be Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which finally gives players an opportunity to play as Goro Majima again following years of fan demand.
New Survey Could Be Encouraging News for Yakuza Fans on Switch
A new survey from Sega is encouraging news for fans of the Yakuza games who are hoping the series will continue coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have revealed that Kiryu's iconic Dragon of Dojima outfit will be available for Majima to don in the upcoming game as an alternate outfit. The game will provide plenty of choices in this regard, with prior trailers showing Majima wearing a variety of different outfits, including some previously seen in the series. To get the Kiryu gear, all players need to do is to sign up on the Sega website and join the official email list. This must be done no later than February 25, and a redeemable code and instructions will be sent to those who join in time.
Majima and Kiryu Are Strongly Associated Across the Yakuza Franchise
While this could be seen as just another cosmetic option, it's not the first time that the series leads have swapped outfits. Majima also had access to one of Kiryu's looks in Yakuza 0, the game that the two were co-protagonists in. However, it was his look from before he became the "true" Dragon of Dojima, so this is one of the first official opportunities for Majima to wear this particular outfit.
While recent circumstances in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series have given the two characters few opportunities to interact, veteran players are well aware that they have a history going way back. Majima is something of a menace to Kiryu in Yakuza Kiwami, popping up when least expected to challenge him to fights of all varieties. Their story extends far beyond that, as well, eventually developing into a competitive friendship. While the upcoming Like a Dragon hasn't given any indication that Kiryu will make an appearance, this at least gives a nod to the influence that Kiryu and Majima have had on each other over the course of the series.
