Life is Strange: Double Exposure follows the other games in the series by asking you to solve some puzzles in order to get the information you need to solve the larger mystery at hand. One of these puzzles is trying to unlock Vinh's phone to see what he's hiding.
Max is tasked with finding out who murdered Safi in Life is Strange: Double Exposure, and Vinh is one of her prime suspects in Chapter 2. This is mainly because he's acting very suspiciously about his phone, and as a result, she needs to find the passcode to unlock it and discover his secret.

Before delving into Life is Strange's universe, players should be aware of several unwritten rules regarding its choices and exploration options.
How to Unlock Vinh's Phone
The first step on this mission is to speak with Vinh in the quad while you're in the living world, which will be available after you leave the bar at the start of the chapter. He has lost his phone, and he suspects that Diamond has stolen it. Speak to Diamond and eavesdrop on the Abraxas members nearby to discover that she likely didn't, and Vinh will tell you that you can find him in his office later.
You won't be able to find him in his office immediately, so complete the other two missions in the Fine Arts Building. Once you're done, you'll be able to find Vinh back in his office in the Living World. He has found his phone, but he's acting very secretive about it. He mentions that he can't remember his passcode because he's so hungover, but he knows it has something to do with the day a certain magician scientist died.
Max will remark that, thankfully, she knows another Vinh she can speak to, and this is your cue to transition to the Dead World using her dimension powers. Go back to Vinh's office in the Dead World, and you'll find him on the couch drinking a little too early in the day. While you speak with him, you can either use the favor he owes you to get his passcode, or you can find out which magician scientist he was talking about in the Living World.
He'll tell you the name of the magician, Jack Parsons. From here, you need to look for a book in the library which will tell you exactly the year he died. The book is on the shelves right next to the fireplace, on the left as you enter the library. If you aren't sure where to find the library, it's where you helped Gwen get the book from the locked bookcase.
Now that you have the code, return to the Living World and back to Vinh's office. He won't be there, but his phone will be lying on his desk. Use the passcode to open it and discover the secret he's hiding, and Max will be one step closer to unraveling the mystery of who killed Safi in Life is Strange: Double Exposure.
