There are MAJOR story spoilers ahead for Lies of P Soulslike game Lies of P provides players with a fascinating story and incredibly challenging gameplay, but the biggest question once the credits roll deals with a certain teased character. For many, this is the biggest question heading into the already-confirmed Lies of P DLC and sequel, which could perhaps somehow further P's story if not outright adapt other fairy tales. After all, the DLC image seems to focus on a ship at sea, meaning something like Neverland may not be off the table. That's just speculation, though, and many are curious if the woman shown at the end will return.
The Best War Games recently asked about this character during an interview with Lies of P game director Jiwon Choi. During our interview, Choi not only praised the collaboration between Lies of P and Xbox Game Pass, but he also provided insight into the developer's boss design, settling on the role of Gepetto in the game, and much, much more. Asking about Dorothy's role in future content was irresistible.
One Lies of P Boss Cost More Than 'Two Separate Bosses' to Make
In a recent The Best War Games interview, Lies of P game director Jiwon Choi reveals which boss was the most challenging—and expensive—to design.
However, it's also worth noting that Dorothy wasn't the only cameo considered by developer Round8, which is in and of itself an interesting prospect. It sounds like Round8 has considered, and perhaps even has plans for, other dark fairy tale adaptations into the Soulslike game space. He wouldn't say who was all discussed other than Dorothy, simply stating there were "so many it is impossible to name just a few. We discussed almost every famous classic character." Round8 would decide to include Dorothy in Lies of P sometime around summer 2022, meaning her cameo was decided just a little over a year from release.
This tease has plenty of possible outcomes, whether Dorothy appears in Lies of P's upcoming DLC or sequel, whether she is a playable character in a second game, and so forth. Jiwon Choi quickly acknowledged that this was the question on everyone's mind, but that it was still too early to talk about Round8's plans for this tease. However, he certainly understands the appeal and desire to know what comes next.
This would be my top question if I were a player, but as a director, I feel bad that I cannot reveal it yet. Please take my answer as how serious Round8 is on the DLC and sequel, and they are being diligent. For now, I can only say we will reveal more when the time is right.
He'd also ask for patience regarding this, stating that Round8 is working diligently on the DLC and sequel. Among those, players will likely get their answer, but it's a huge tease with many possible outcomes. Whatever Round8 has planned, it's likely vital to the future of Lies of P and establishing this IP as a franchise within the Soulslike franchise. The response and desire to know how Dorothy ties in, whether that means a Wizard of Oz soulslike game is in the works, how she connects to P, and how she connects to the greater worldbuilding around it all is no doubt encouraging to the developers, and after Lies of P, they have certainly earned some patience. Fans will just have to wait and see what comes next for Dorothy, but her return in some regard is inevitable.
