The Soulslike genre has been around for roughly a decade now, which means it's still a relatively new genre for the video game industry. There have been plenty of entries in the Soulslike genre, however, ranging from close imitations of Dark Souls' dark fantasy aesthetic, to more unique twists on the genre, such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Another Crab's Treasure. Lies of P falls somewhere in the middle.
Released in September 2023, Lies of P has a similar dark fantasy aesthetic to Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, but its source material sets it apart, being a gothic take on the story of Pinocchio. Along with its unique premise, Lies of P offers some of the most responsive combat the Soulslike genre has ever seen, and contains some memorable enemy and boss designs. And despite being almost two years old, there's never been a better time to play it.
Lies of P: Overture’s Reveal Trailer May Paint a Clear Portrait of Its Sequel
Now that Lies of P's DLC has been revealed it would appear fairly transparent what its sequel will entail in terms of a new story and protagonist.
It's The Perfect Time to Pick Up and Play Lies of P
Lies of P Has a Major DLC On The Way
In its original and current form, Lies of P feels like a complete Soulslike experience. According to tracker site HowLongToBeat, it should take players roughly 30 hours to beat Lies of P's main story, and around another 10 hours to finish all the side content the game has to offer. Encompassed in those 40 hours are 25 bosses, over 170 weapons, and over 60 enemy types.
But Lies of P is about to get a lot more content. Confirmed to be in existence all the way back in November 2023, Lies of P's story DLC was officially revealed in full during Sony's February State of Play. Titled 'Overture,' Lies of P's expansion will see players take control of Geppetto's Puppet once more, who touches a mysterious artifact that sends him back in time to the final days of Krat's 'civilized' existence, and the start of the Puppet Frenzy.
If the reveal trailer is any indication, Lies of P: Overture is set to be an explosive expansion that'll bring a wealth of new bosses, weapons, NPCs, Fable Arts, and more to the game. Overture currently has a Summer 2025 release window, giving new fans plenty of time to pick up and play Lies of P's base game ahead of the upcoming DLC.
A Lies of P sequel was also confirmed to be in development back in November 2023, though it's unclear how far along in development it is or when it might release.
