Lies of P has surpassed seven million players, Neowiz has announced. The publisher shared this impressive figure on the six-month anniversary of Lies of P's release.
Developed by South Korea-based Round8 Studio, Lies of P launched to critical acclaim at the tail end of summer 2023. Reviewers and players alike commended the game's intricate crafting system, tight combat mechanics, and inventive enemy designs, among other qualities. Its story, envisioned as a grimdark retelling of Carlo Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio, has also received fairly widespread praise for being memorable and intriguing.
New Soulslike Game Is Like Sekiro, But With Cats
A new unique soulslike with cats is coming to Steam Early Access this spring ahead of its full-fledged launch on PC and consoles.
Looking to illustrate the sheer scope of the game's success, Neowiz has recently taken to social media to reveal that Lies of P has exceeded seven million players worldwide. "Thank you for being part of our journey," the publisher wrote in a March 19 tweet coinciding with the RPG's six-month anniversary. The company's update further cements Lies of P's reputation as one of the most successful and critically acclaimed soulslikes of 2023.
For added context, the publisher's last commercial update on the game was offered in October 2023, when Neowiz said that Lies of P sold a million units in its first four weeks on the market. Meaning that the steampunk soulslike has still been attracting over a million new players per month ever since. Because Lies of P was a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, its total player tally cannot be equated to its lifetime sales.
Lies of P's Success Is Further Evidence of This Being the Golden Age of Soulslikes
But that's not to take away from the game's historic success, which helps underline how the soulslike genre is currently stronger than ever. Bandai Namco offered another testament to that trend in late February, when it revealed that Elden Ring hit 23 million in lifetime sales. Between that and upcoming titles such as Rise of the Ronin, Black Myth: Wukong, and Kristala, not to mention Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, this truly seems like the golden age of soulslikes, with new exciting titles continuously popping up on the regular.
Soulslike fans can hence expect plenty more compelling experiences in the near future. As for Round8 Studio's latest hit, the company has already confirmed that it's not done with its Pinocchio-starring ARPG, having already teased the first Lies of P expansion back in November 2023. The DLC is still pending a concrete release date, although more details on that front are expected to arrive before year's end. In the meantime, Rise of the Ronin and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree release March 22 and June 21, respectively.
