Summary

  • Players should prioritize keeping the Grinder on their lower belt in Lies of P, as weapon durability becomes increasingly important and the Grinder allows for temporary effects on weapons.
  • Venigni's Urgent Repair Tools are incredibly useful for repairing weapon durability during intense moments, making them essential on the lower belt.
  • Having various types of Abrasives ready to use on the lower belt is crucial for imbuing weapons with elemental damage, as Elemental Damage is significant in battles depending on the enemy type.

Players have a lot of different ways to utilize items mid-combat in Lies of P. They have their upper belt, lower belt, and quick access bag, and all of these are meant to be used for players to separate their usable items into easily recognizable categories to use at a glance.

However, unlike other Soulslike games, players only have a few slots for these items in each belt or bag, so picking what item is going to be on each one matters a fair bit. With that in mind, let's go over some of the best tools and items players can slap onto specifically their lower belt in Lies of P.

7 Weapon Durability Grinder

Lies Of P - Using Grinder To Sharpen Weapon Durability-1

First up is the Grinder, an item that starts on the Lower Belt by default and one that players really shouldn't switch out at any point. As the game progresses, the Grinder only becomes more important. Eventually, Grindstones are unlocked that let players add elemental or additional effects to their weapon temporarily, and enemies start to really drain on weapon durability the further Pinocchio gets in their adventure.

Yes, technically players could just use Venigni's Repair Tools as a substitute, but the items are relatively rare even at Merchant Shops and are not at all meant to be used as a replacement.

6 Venigni's Urgent Repair Tool

Lies Of P - Using Vegnini's Repair Tool-1

Venigni's Urgent Repair Tools are incredibly useful compared to a lot of other consumables in Lies of P, which makes it even more of a shame that they seem to show up less frequently. However, whenever players find any of these things, it's worth it to slap them onto their lower belt so that they can use them instead of their Grinder when the situation calls for it.

To give an example of when this scenario might pop up, the second part of the King of Puppets fight, in particular, has a moment where players are going to need to repair their weapon durability, but the enemy in question usually only gives them a second or two at most to breathe. In this circumstance, Venigni's Urgent Repair Tool can literally mean the difference between life and death.

5 Gemini's Emergency Protection & Iron Protection

Lies of P obviously takes a lot of inspiration from Bloodborne and other Soulslikes, but it also innovates on the subgenre in some interesting ways. For example, the ability for players to 'regen' their healing items (AKA Pulse Cells) by doing enough damage is an inventive addition to the subgenre that goes a long way toward making the game a bit more forgiving.

Additionally, items like Gemini's Emergency Protection and Gemini's Iron Protection are also pretty unique. These items, temporarily, prevent players from losing any of their Ergo when they die. At first, it might seem ridiculous to expect players to use an item to 'prepare' for their death mid-combat. But, some elite enemies in the second half of the game can easily decimate players and make them burn through all their Pulse Cells. And in this situation or the more common situation of being out of Pulse Cells during a boss fight, players can just pop either of these items to at least hold onto the Ergo they're holding.

4 Legion Magazine

Lies of P - Player Using Legion Cartridge To Reload Legion Arm-1

At first, it might not seem like Pinocchio's Legion Arm is worth much. When players first start Lies of P they'll only have a basic 'punch' to use with said Legion Arm. But, as players progress through the game, unlock new Hotel Krat NPCs, and build new Legion Arms, they'll find the Legion Arm is actually game-breaking if used correctly. The Aegis Arm can trivialize certain bosses that would've been much more difficult using Perfect Guards.

The Puppet String's last upgrade can give players using slower weapons a way to actually punish enemies in a Staggerable state. And, the Fulminis is just a fantastic damage tool that players can usually sneak into the window between enemy attacks pretty easily. For players who like using their Legion Arm of choice, slotting some Legion Magazines on the bottom belt can make getting from one Stargazer to another a lot easier or make a boss that seemed impossible before a lot more doable.

3 All Types Of Abrasives (Fire, Electric Blitz, & Acid)

Abrasives are just like the different Elemental Greases in Elden Ring if that works as a more easily understandable comparison for Soulslike veterans. Essentially, they're items that players can use to temporarily imbue their weapon with a specific type of Elemental Damage. In Lies of P, Elemental Damage actually matters a lot depending on the enemy type Pinocchio is currently fighting.

So, having a couple of these (of any element) ready to go on the lower belt just keeps the player prepared for any situation. The only thing that might be a bit confusing is the fact that the icon for the Abrasives looks pretty similar to the Grinder icon. However, the color differences between each Abrasive and the Grinder should be more than enough to keep players from getting mixed up.

2 Attribute Purification & Special Purification Ampoules

As players progress through more and more of Krat and its surrounding area, they'll find that Environmental Hazards start appearing more and more as well. Things like rivers of Corruption, lakes of Decay, Bear Traps, Disruption crystals, crumbling floors, and so on can all be deadly if not taken seriously.

But, if players have some Attribute Purification Ampoules on their lower belt, they can feel a lot more safe overall. Having these items within reach at all times allows players to easily trudge through a Corrupted slog to get a chest without ever having to worry about getting rid of the Corruption fluid first. Just remember, Attribute Purification applies to Shock, Decay, Corruption, and Overheat while Special Purification applies to Shock, Break, and Disruption.

1 Wishtone Cube

Lies of P - Player Holding Up Cube To Use It In-Game Animation-1

The Wishing Cube or Wishtone Cube is an item players won't get until they meet an NPC named Giangio near the winged angel statue near the Path of Misery. It's a usable item that, depending on the Wishstone players slot into the Cube, can grant all kinds of wonderful (but temporary) effects.

From constant healing to healing specter summons or even giving both the player and their specter elemental buffs, Wishstones can do all sorts of things. While the method of recharging the Wishstone at Giangio is pretty out-of-the-way and unnecessary, as it requires constantly cultivating the Gold Coin Tree and returning to Giangio, it's a helpful item overall. If players decide to utilize the Cube in their playthrough, they'll want it on the lower belt and they'll also (most likely) want to invest in the Increase Cube Uses P-Organ upgrade and Decrease Cube Activation Time P-Organ ability.

Lies of P is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
