LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the biggest LEGO video game ever created, and its newly leaked download size seems to reflect that. It's not at hard drive-filling Call of Duty or Red Dead Redemption 2 levels just yet, but for a LEGO game it's much more than expected.
LEGO fans have been playing Star Wars game adaptations since LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game kicked things off in 2005 with an adaptation of the prequel trilogy. It was a massive hit, and LEGO adaptations of the rest of the Saga up to the Force Awakens soon followed. But LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a completely new game that spans the entire nine films, and features brand new RPG mechanics that allow players to upgrade abilities and truly make each character feel different. It's bigger than previous titles in every single way.
According to Twitter account PlaystationSize, the PS5 version of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will have a download size of 38.182 GB. That's without the likely day one patch, so players should expect it to be even larger and clear their hard drives accordingly. The game will be available for pre-load on April 3rd so players that preorder it can get things downloaded a couple of days early and start it up as soon as it launches on April 5th.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was originally planned for release back in 2020, but numerous delays have plagued developer TT Games. Reports of the studio’s unhealthy work environment have revealed that the developers have reportedly been subject to intense amounts of crunch time and discriminatory behavior, as employees are shifted from project to project in a development cycle that never seems to end.
TT Games has multiple unannounced LEGO projects in the works but one would hope that it can figure out how to ensure their employees are happy at work to continue to produce these beloved games.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases April 5, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
