LEGO is gearing up to release its first-ever Pikachu set, but some fans are not interested after seeing it in person. While many fans have been dreaming of official Pokemon-themed LEGO sets for years, one of the products is leaving a lot to be desired.
News of Pokemon LEGO sets came after tge LEGO Group and The Pokemon Company announced a multi-year partnership in 2025. Although a collaboration between the two massive brands seemed obvious, this was the first time fans would receive official LEGO sets based on pocket monsters, as Mega Bloks previously held the rights. In January 2026, LEGO announced multiple sets for release, including one featuring the Pokemon franchise's iconic mascot, Pikachu. While an official Pikachu set was unsurprising, the fan reception has been underwhelming.

Pokemon Fans Are Disappointed With LEGO Pikachu and Poke Ball Set Design
On Reddit, a user known as GK686 shared a picture of the LEGO Pikachu and Poke Ball set in a LEGO store. Despite the product not being released until February 27, Pokemon fans could travel to select stores to preview what the design looks like in person. Unfortunately, GK686 revealed that they were disappointed by the design of the new Pikachu set upon seeing it at the store. While they thought it had some redeeming qualities, including a lightning bolt-shaped base, it was overall disappointing. They highlighted the face being a major problem, especially the eyes and nose. According to the Reddit user, they believed that it looked worse than the Mega Bloks versions of Pikachu.
Pokemon Fans Think Mega Bloks Did Pikachu Sets Better
For context, it is worth pointing out that Mega Bloks released several Pikachu products during its Pokemon run. For example, the Motion Pikachu set from 2022 had a design that many fans thought looked more like how the Electric-type critter looked in official Pokemon media. As the name suggests, the model could even run in place thanks to a crank at the back of the stand. The company also released the Jumbo Pikachu, among others, for relatively low prices.
The unfavorable opinion of the LEGO Pikachu set was popular on Reddit. With over 7.3K upvotes, many found the LEGO design to be disappointing. Beyond the build quality, users highlighted the high price, comparing it to the lower prices of Mega Bloks. Specifically, the set comes in at $199.99. While the set also includes a Poke Ball, many found it to be less desirable than the previous Mega Bloks versions.

It is worth pointing out that this is not the only Pokemon LEGO product coming out on February 27. LEGO Eevee will be available for $59.99, along with the much larger and much more expensive LEGO Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise set, coming in at $649.99. Fortunately, the LEGO Eevee design is much better, despite its smaller size. Notably, LEGO Eevee is 587 pieces, while the LEGO Pikachu and Poke Ball set comes in at 2,050 pieces. While Pokemon fans like the Eevee design, it highlighted the glaring issues many see with the Pikachu set.
It remains to be seen how this negative reception to the Pikachu and Poke Ball set impacts sales. However, this set is only one of what will likely be many official Pokemon products in the years ahead. With this in mind, it is possible that LEGO could hear the fan feedback and make appropriate changes to Pikachu’s design if it happens to be included in other sets in the coming months.
