Artwork for a new LEGO video game, developed by 2K has seemingly been leaked ahead of a full reveal. For the longest time, LEGO games have been developed by Traveller’s Tales, but recently the brick maker has chosen to diversify the license and offer other studios to develop video games based on the popular toy.
In 2022, 2K Games emerged as one of the studios that had agreed on a multi-game deal with the LEGO Company. Releasing in May 2023, LEGO 2K Drive was not received well by critics but the madcap racer still found its audience thanks to its family-friendly positioning. The next game from 2K has yet to be officially confirmed but thanks to an eagle-eyed fan, some information surrounding the title has come to light.
As spotted by a user JammyBoi64 on Reddit, LEGO 2K Goooal! Appears to be the next game from 2K Games. The poster noticed a store page on the Australian PlayStation Store had briefly been made public before any official announcement. LEGO 2K Goooal! Is allegedly being developed by Sumo Digital and published by 2K as part of a multideal agreement with the LEGO company.
The page, which has since been pulled down, showcased the game’s key art with various LEGO mini-figures taking to the soccer pitch as well as some basic information about the game itself. According to the screenshot by JammyBoi64, LEGO 2K Goooal! Is set to be released across both PS4 and PS5 consoles and supports both online and offline play. The cross-generational release is understandable as both LEGO 2K Drive and the TT-developed LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga were released across multigenerational consoles.
The listing also confirms that microtransactions could be implemented into the soccer title. 2K has previously come under fire for applying in-game transactions so any news of microtransactions could be worrying to some players. It is worth noting that the information could be wrong, as there also appears to be contradictory information about the number of players who can play online. Until there is an official announcement from 2K, gamers will have to wait to see if in-game microtransactions will be implemented.
Although no official announcement has been made on the status of 2K’s next LEGO game, rumors of LEGO 2K Goooal! Have been around for some time now, spurred on by the game being rated by the Korean rating board in June 2023. It would seem a reveal is close at hand and with the holiday season fast approaching, 2K Games could well be lining up LEGO 2K Goooal! To be shadow-dropped in time for Christmas.
