There are a lot of mini-bosses sprinkled throughout the many layers of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Likely the first that players will come across is a Construct, as one can even be fought in the Tutorial Area for those brave enough to take it on. Unfortunately, these optional bosses don't come with much of an instruction manual, and if they spot Link with their roaming red scanners, they will attack on sight. Aggressive and powerful, Constructs can be a death sentence for adventurers who are unprepared.
Thankfully, like many of the other bosses present in Hyrule, these hulking Zonai-imbued enemies have a weak point. The following guide contains tips and tricks for players that are struggling to topple the many Constructs found throughout The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How To Defeat Flux Constructs In Tears Of The Kingdom
Constructs all operate the same, but some of them are stronger than others, usually denoted by their "Version Number." The first Construct that players can battle in the Tutorial Area is present with an I Roman Numeral, and players will also come across II and III variants as they venture throughout Hyrule. The higher the Roman Numeral the more difficult the Construct itself. That said, although their health and power increase, their tactics remain very much the same.
The weakpoint on the Construct is denoted by a particular block on its body that will grow green. Shooting this block with an area or hitting it with a weapon will stun the creature, but players can also break the Construct apart if they use the Ultrahand to grab the green-glowing block and shake it free (by wiggling the right thumbstick when it's being held). Once the Construct is broken apart, players are free to attack the green-glowing block and deal additional damage. As the fight continues and the creature changes shapes, its weakpoint will arrange in different spots.
Those that are having trouble grabbing the weak point can also simply dismantle the creature with the Ultrahand. By using the ability and grabbing a block, they can tug the Construct apart piece by piece, with it eventually breaking and exposing its weak point, which can then be attacked.
TIP: Higher-level Constructs will deploy a trick in which their Weakpoint block swaps spots during battle. The easiest way to "pin it down" is to hit it with a weapon, thrown item, or arrow, allowing enough time to grab it.
Constructs have three different forms they cycle through when attacking, and usually, the creatures will cycle through these forms in a specific order (although they have been seen to change this up at times, albeit rarely). When fighting, Constructs will go through the following phases:
- Walking Form - When in this form, the Construct will look like a large walking mech and will step towards Link. They also have an attack where they will teleport to Link's location before reforming quickly and performing an overhead smash. This attack can be dodged by simply running out of range of the short AOE. Players should wait until the monster performs its overhead attack, as that will give them a small window to grab at or strike its weak point, as it takes a moment to reset.
- Cube Form - In This form, the creature takes a large Cube shape and will turn towards Link, attempting to roll over him. At times, the Construct will "jump" and then smash down at Link, causing a fairly large AOE. In this form, players should be sure to keep their distance and run far away when the creature jumps. Grabbing the weak block in this form can be difficult as it's usually contained in one side of the cube. Those struggling to get to it might opt to simply tug enough blocks off of the creature to cause it to break apart.
- Floating Form - The Construct takes to the sky in a flat platform-like shape. It will attack by sending out rows of blocks and them launching them at Link. The strategy here is to maintain enough distance from the creature while it's attacking and then move in, using Ascend to teleport up and through it, where players can then attack its weak point on top.
That's all there is to defeating these minibosses and once players understand their attack patterns, they're actually pretty easy to take down.
